تناول هذا الكتاب عشرة فصول، حيث يعرض في الفصل الأول مفهوم اللغة ومكوناتها وخصائصها والفصل الثاني تناول نظريات اكتساب اللغة أما الفصل الثالث عرض فيه اضطرابات النمو الكلامي واللغوي والمتمثلة بإخراج الكلام والتعبير اللغوي والفصل الرابع خصص للتحدث عن المفاهيم التي تحدث عنها بياجيه في نظريته والفصل الخامس يبحث في نظريات النمو المعرفي وفي الفصل السادس يوضح النظريات المعرفية المتمثلة بنظرية التعلم بالعلامات الوظيفية والفصل السابع تناول مظاهر واهداف النمو اللغوي والمعرفي والفصل الثامن خصص للتحدث عن وحدة الجهاز العصبي, والفصل التاسع يختص بنظريات التعلم. السلوكية والمعرفية والإنسانية وفي الفصل العاشر يبين الخصائص اللغوية لذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة وطرق التواصل مع المعاقين سمعيا .
