يتناول هذا الكتاب قضية غربة الفلسفة في المجتمع المسلم، وهي القضية التي شغلت فلاسفة الاندلس الكبار كل على طريقته، وخاصة بعد تكفير الغزالي للفلاسفة في الشرق. ويتناول الكتاب في جزء آخر انتقال فلسفة ابن رشد إلى أوروبا في القرن الثالث عشر، وكيف تعرض هناك لمحنة أخرى ولاضطهاد من نوع آخر، إلا أن فيلسوف قرطبة تمكن رغم ذلك من التأثير على أجيال من الفلاسفة الأوروبيين.
