كتب قسطنطين زريق هذه الذكريات في الأيام الأخيرة من حياته. ولم تمهله الأيام ليتمّها كما كان ينوي. لذلك اقتصرت ذكرياته على أيام طفولته وشبابه، ولم يحدثنا، كما أشار، عن مواقفه وآرائه، وكيف تبلورت عندما نضجت وعالجت القضايا الكبرى للأمة العربية. كما لم يحدثنا عن نضاله من أجل تنشئة جيل عربي ملتزم، وتربية عربية رصينة، وواعية وفاضلة. ولعلّه كان، لو قدّر له إنجاز مذكراته، قد خص القضية الفلسطينية بمعالجة متأنّية بعد سنوات من المتابعة اليومية لهذه القضية، وتوجيهٍ للباحثين فيها ذلك بأن القضية الفلسطينية وقضية الوحدة العربية بقيتا الهاجس الدائم لزريق حتى آخر أيامه. لذلك فإن هذه الذكريات، التي تنشر لأول مرة، هي ذات شأن مميّز، فهي تلقي الضوء على مسيرة أحد أبرز المفكرين العرب.
