يتناول هذا الكتاب حياة وفكر إحدى كبار الشخصيات العربية في القرن العشرين. شخصية قدمت مساهمات رئيسية إلى الفكر القومي العربي وإلى الفكر التاريخي والتربوي عربيا وعالميا. يفتتح الكتاب فصل يتناول حياة ونشاط الدكتور قسطنطين زريق في سياق التاريخ العربي الحديث، ويتناول على وجه الخصوص نشاطه السياسي القومي العربي ومساهماته في بناء المؤسسات التربوية، إضافة إلى نشاطه العام سفيرا ورئيسا لجامعة دمشق وللرابطة العالمية للجامعات، ورئيسا بالوكالة للجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، تلك المؤسسة التي قضى جل حياته في خدمتها. ثم ينتقل الكتاب لتناول مساهمته في إشادة أسس الفكر القومي العربي، ونظريته في الحضارة والتقدم وفي مستقبل المجتمعات العربية، ومساهمته في تدريس علم التاريخ ورعايته. ويختتم الكتاب بفصل يتناول علاقة فكر زريق بالتيارات القومية وغيرها التي اعتملت في الحياة العربية الحديثة، وتقويم تركته الفكرية في سياق التجربة التاريخية للعرب في القرن العشرين.
