تتناول الدراسة المؤرخ ابن حيان القرطبي الذي يعتبر وبإجماع المؤرخين ظاهرة فكرية متميزة في القرن الرابع الهجري(11 ميلادي) وقد أبرزت الدراسة بعض النتائج المهمة، فكشفت عن ملامح الفكر التاريخي في الأندلس وأبرت إسهامات بعض المؤرخين المعرفية وفي النهاية أوضحت الدراسة كيفية تبوأ ابن حيان مكانة لائقة ومميزة بين مؤرخي عصره وكيف أجمع الدارسون على اعتباره حامل لواء التاريخ في الأندلس، وأنه أعظم مؤرخ أنجبته الأندلس، بل والغرب كله الإسلامي والمسيحي منه على السواء.
