يسعى هذا المشروع الوطني إلهام إلى توثيق ذاكرة الحكاية الشعبية البحرينية قبل إندثارها ولأجل أن تكون حاضرة لأجيال سعينا إلى بذل جهد جماعي لإنعاش ذاكرة الحكاية الشعبية في جزء عزيز من الوطن العربي، تمهيدا لدراستها دراسة أكاديمية منهجية معمقة وإذ يسعى هذا المشروع الوطني كذلك إلى الحفاظ على الهوية البحرينية وإبرازها بتنوعاتها وإختلافاتها وهي سمة هذا المجتمع المتسامح المتعايش مع أطياف متنوعة في أديانها ومذاهبها وعرقياتها الإثنية منذ أقدم العصور وللحكاية الشعبية دور كبير في إبراز هذه التنوّعات الخلاقة والمساعدة في تعزيز إنتماء هذه الجماعات المختلفة إلى المواطنة والهوية.
