مما لا شك فيه أن الصراع، من الناحية الفلسفية هو الظاهرة الأكثر شمولية في الوجود. بل إنه القانون الناظم لشتى أشكال الحياة في المجتمع وفي الطبيعة. والصراع قائم منذ الأزل بين الخير والشر، بين ما هو قديم وما هو جديد، بين ما هو طارئ وما هو مستقر. ولأن الصراعات على اختلافها، تلعب دورا جوهريا في تطور أو تقهقر المجتمعات، فقد عملت معظم دول العالم على الاهتمام بعلم الصراع، وأقامت له المراكز والمعاهد، كما رصدت أموالا طائلة لتطويره. ولما كانت مجتمعاتنا، كغيرها، مليئة بالتناقضات وبأسباب النزاعات، فمن الضروري أن يحظى علم الصراع باهتمام القارئ العربي بصورة عامة، والمثقف أو رجل الاختصاص على نحو خاص. ونحن بأمس الحاجة لهياكل تدرس وتحلل الصراعات وتمنع تفاقمها، من ناحية وأن تعمل على حلها ومعالجتها في حال نشوبها، من ناحية ثانية. يقدم الكتاب لمحة عامة وكافية لتاريخ وتطور علم الصراع في دول العالم المتقدم.
