تناول هذا الكتاب السيرة الذاتية للشاعر \"نصر بن أحمد البصري الخبزأرزي\" المتوفي سنة 330 هـ، حيث ذكر في الكتاب أنه كان أميا لا يعرف القراءة والكتابة واكتسب لقبه من حرفته، فقد كان خبازا يخبز الأرز بدكان له في مدريد البصرة وكان أميا لا يتهجى ولا يكتب وكانت نشأته بالبصرة حيث خالط شعراءها وعلماءها وقضاتها ثم انتقل إلى بغداد وأقام بها زمنا وهناك جمع ديوانه وقرئ عليه وعلى الرغم من أميته ومن فقدانه لآلات الشعر وأدواته وعدده، فقد توفرت نصوصه الشعرية على جماليات فائقة الأهمية من حيث صنعة الشعر وقد كان من أسرع الشعراء بديهة وارتجالا وأوجدت له أميته شهرة كان جديرا بها وقد أدهشت موهبته الشعرية معاصريه حتى جعلت أحد أكبر معاصريه من الشعراء والنقاد وهو ابن لنكك البصري، يجلس إليه ويجمع شعره ويكتبه.
