الطفولة صانعة المستقبل وهي عماد وأساس تقدم أي أمة وقد أكدت الدراسات النفسية على أهمية مرحلة الطفولة في حياة الإنسان وعلى خطورتها في تشكيل شخصياتهم والأسرة هي الوحدة الأساسية للمجتمع بقدر ما هي نسق اجتماعي متماسك بنظام من العلاقات والأدوار بين أعضاء الأسرة تتسم بالخصوص والاستقرار لفترة طويلة لذلك فإن السرة هي البيئة والمناخ الملائم لمكز الطفل ومشكلات الطفولة قد تمتد بصورة تتطلب تدخلاً مهمنيا وتمتد تلك المشكلات لتشمل مشكلات مثل التخلف العقلي والعدوان والعنف وعدم ضبط السلوك والمخاوق والسرقة والكذب والتبول اللاإرادي ولقد تبين أن مشكلات الأطفال نتيجة الاتجاهات غير سوية شفى تربية الأطفال وأن أي اضطراب في سلوك الطفل هو نتيجة اضطراب الأسرة ذاتها وأن أفضل طريقة لمساعدة الطفل هي مساعدة الوالدين وتزداد قيمة المساعدة إذا ما اشتركت الأسرة في العلاج.
