لعل الجانب الوثائقي، هو الأكثر أهمية، في مذكرات إسحق رابين، بجزأيها الأول والثاني، اللذين يغطيان فترة تنتهي بعام 1967 ميلادي، العام الذي سبق هبوط حزب العمل الإسرائيلي، عن سدة الحكم لصالح حزب الليكود اليميني، الأمر الذي أحدث تحولا في المنهج السياسي الإسرائيلي، مذكرات رابين هذه، تعتبر مادة تاريخية، لم تترجم لحياة الرجل فحسب، بل تعدت هذا الهدف إلى التأريخ لحقبة زمنية طويلة من الحكم العمالي، الذي تعرض للمد والجزر واستسلم لغرور القوة وأرسى قواعد الاحتلال، فأصيب بداء العظمة وجاءت حساباته غير متطابقة مع الواقع، فهوى وجلس مترهلا في كراسي المعارضة، حقبة طويلة من الزمن، قبل أن يلملم حزب العمل أجزاءه المبعثرة وينهض من جديد ولو على عصى من خشب.
