يتناول كتاب (أصول علم النفس ) والذي قامه بتأليفه ( محمد شحاتة ربيع) في حوالي (551) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (علم النفس) مستعرضا المحتويات التالية : موضوع الفصل الأول هو (علم النفس موضوعه وفروعه) وهو فصل يتناول تعريف علم النفس على أساس أنه العلم الذي يدرس السلوك، وموضوع الفصل الثاني (تاريخ علم النفس ومدارسه) حيث يعرض هذا الفصل لعلم النفس القديم عند اليونان متحدثا عن سقراط وأفلاطون وأرسطو ثم يعرض لعلم النفس الوسيط عن الإسلاميين متحدثا عن الفارابي وابن سينا والغزالي، أما موضوع الفصل الثالث فهو (مناهج البحث في علم النفس) حيث يعرض الفصل لمقدمة إضافية عن الخطوات المنهج السليم والتي تدور حول الفروض والعينات والأدوات والنتائج وتفسيرها، أما موضوع الفصل الخامس فهو (الانفعالات) حيث يعرض الفصل لمقدمة تمهيدية عن الانفعال ثم يتحدث عن إدراك الانفعالات والتعبير عنها مبينا عالمية أساليب التعبير عن الانفعال مما يشير إلى الأصل الوراثي للانفعالات... إلخ.
