إن اتصال علم المالية العامة بالعلوم الأخرى (علم الاقتصاد، القانون، السياسة) لا يعني أن علم المالية من العلوم الأخرى. ولكون علم المالية العامة العامة غير مستقل بحد ذاته ومن غير الممكن اعتباره جزءا يتبع أساليب البحث المنظم للكشف عن العوامل المؤثرة في النفقات العامة والإيرادات العامة التي تشكل أساس الموازنة العامة فالمالية العامة علم مستقل بذاته علم المالية العامة هو ذلك العلم الذي يرتبط ارتباطا وثيقا بعلم الاقتصاد الذي توسعت فروعه بشكل كبير في الآونة الأخيرة. يضاف إلى ذلك فأن علم المالية العامة يربط بعلم السياسة وعلم القانون، ولا تقل علاقته بهذين العلمين عن علاقته بعلم الاقتصاد.
