عندما يتعرف الإنسان على السياسة عن قرب، يجد أمامه خيارين متباينين : البكاء أو الضحك. لم أجد في نفسي رغبة في البكاء، لذلك رحت أنظر إلى السياسة وإلى أهلها من ذلك الجانب المضحك. في حياة كل منا العديد من الأحداث الدرامية التي تكدر عليه معيشته، لذلك ما الفائدة في أن أزيد الطين بله وأنت تقرأ هذا الكتاب بينما أنا شخصيا استمتعت وأنا أكتبه؟ وقد قررت أن أعالج ثنائية - السياسية والمأساة، والسياسة والتهريج - بالانحياز إلى النهج الساخر أرى الآن اللغويين المتشددين وهم يتأففون من استعمال كلمة تهريج. في الواقع أن تاريخ التهريج يتشابه كثيرا مع تاريخ السياسة، فكلنا نحب المزاح، رغم أن الغالبية لا تعرف معنى التهريج الحقيقي. كذلك أيضا نحب الحديث في السياسة، رغم أن معظمنا لا يعرف ما هي السياسة في الواقع.
