حتل موضوع الإتجاهات أهمية خاصة في علم النفس الإجتماعي وعلم النفس التربوي، وله أثر كبير على سلوك الفرد في حياته وعلى توجيه هذا السلوك، وتعد الإتجاهات أحد أهم الموضوعات التي تهم المعلمين وأولياء الأمور والعاملين في مجال تربية وتعليم الأفراد، وعن طريق معرفة إتجاهات الفرد نحو موضوع معين يمكن التنبؤ بدرجة تحقيقه لهذا الموضوع، وعن طريق تحديد اتجاهات الأفراد تحديدا دقيقا يمكن التعرف على اسباب فشلهم في تحقيق النجاح لأداء بعض الأعمال أو عدم توافقهم مع مجموعة أخرى من الأفراد، وتتكون افتجاهات من خلال عملية التنشئة الإجتماعية، فمن خلال الخبرة المباشرة والممارسة الفعلية للخبرة يتكون اتجاه الفرد نحو موضوع ما، ومن هذا المنطلق كانت ولادة وفكرة إعداد هذا الكتاب، إضافة إلى سد الثغرة الناشئة عن ندرة المراجع العربية في هذا الموضوع.
