\"كلافيجو\" ذهبت الدراسات في تقييم مسرحية كلافيجو أو مأساة كلافيجو مذاهب مختلفة فتقرأ عن التأثر بشكسبير وعن استقبال أعمال فرنسية والتعامل معها في إطار اتجاهات الأدب الألماني في القرن الثامن عشر وبالتحديد في منتصف النصف الثاني منه؛ حيث مثلت شخصيات المسرحية أو المأساة تضارب عناصر نزعة العاصفة والاندلاع وعناصر نزعة الوجدانية وعناصر نزعة التنوير العقلانية وإذا كان جوته يعتبر مسرحية كلافيجو مأساة فهي مأساة تختلف عن الموروث الإغريقي الذي يجد فيه البطل نفسه في صراع مع الآلهة لا سبيل إلى الانتصار فيه فيقضي نحبه ولا يستسلم أما هنا فالبطل يواجه صراعات من داخله لا يستطيع حسمها فيتأرجح بينها إلى أن يقضي نحبه مصارعا شرا أقوى منه فرضا ولم يستسلم له استسلاما حقيقيا.
