تضارب أقوال أفلاطون من قبل عن الفن وقيمته وكان يحكم عليه بانه محاكاة غايتها إثارة اللذة وتمويه الحقيقة وسار على نهج سقراط في النقد فأفاض في اتهام الشعراء والفنانين بإفساد النفوس وتضليلها ولكنه يتحول تماما فنجد في هذه المحاورة بالذات تفسيرا جديدا للنموذج المثالي من الفن الأفلاطوني وهو الفن المعبر عن الوحدة المثالثة للخير والجمال والحق ذلك الثالوث الذي يكشف عنه الفنان في هوسه وإلهامه كما يكشف عنه الفيلسوف في حدسه لعالم المثل وفي تجربة العشق القريبة من جذب الشعراء وإلهامهم والأهم أن كل ما قدمه أفلاطون في محاورة المأدبة يتبين بشكل أوضح في محاورة فايدروس هذه وقد كتبها أفلاطون في فترة تحددت فيها معالم فلسفته وأكتملت آراؤه ونضجت فكان من الطبيعي أن تضئ لنا هذه المحاورة طريقا في متاهات هذه الفلسفة وشعابها المتشابك.
