تناول هذا الكتاب الموسوم \"تاريخ الخليج العربي من أقدم الأزمنة حتى التحرير العربي\" مواضيع متعددة ومهمة بدءا بتركيزه على التسمية العربية للخليج العربي عند سترابون الذي أطلق عليه \"ساينوس أرابيكوس\" وانتهاء بالمعارف الفنية والعلمية العربية في أقطار الخليج العربي وقد قسم الدكتور الأحمد موضوع كتابه على شكل فترات تاريخية متميزة بعطائها الحضاري وهي العصور الحجرية والحجرية المعدنية وفترة حضارة أم النار التي امتدت من سنة (3000- 2500 ق.م) ثم فترة حضارة باربار التي امتدت من سنة (2500-2000 ق.م) ثم فترة سلالة أرض البحر الأولى من سنة ( 2000-1200 ق.م) وفترة سلالة البحر الثانية المتدة من (1200-540 ق.م) وتطرق في الفصلين الأخيرين إلى مواضيع سياسية هامة تتعلق بالأطماع الفارسية في السيطرة على الخليج العربي زمن الأخمينيين ولم ينس آثار التوسع السياسي للإسكندر المقدوني ومن خلفه وآثار العمر الهلنستي في منطقة الخليج العربي حتى سنة (150 ق.م) وركز الفصل الأخير على فترة التسلط الفارسي الساساني والمخططات العسكرية الفارسية في السيطرة على العديد من الدويلات العربية.
