يتناول هذا الكتاب بالدراسة واحدة من القوى العربية الشيعية التي تمكنت من تكوين إمارة في جنوب العراق على حساب الخلافة العباسية وإلى هذه الإمارة يعود الفضل في بناء مدينة الحلة التي تمثل اليوم عاصمة محافظة بابل العراقية وتتسع الدراسة لتغطى شتى الجوانب السياسية والحضارية لتلك الإمارة فقد شملت نشأتها وتوسعها وعلاقاتها بالخلافة العباسية والقوى المعاصرة مثل بنو بويه الذين تغلبوا على الخلافة العباسية وفرضوا سلطانهم عليهم ثم سلطنة السلاجقة التي حلت محل بني بويه ومن الفصول الهامة في تاريخ الإمارة مشاركتهم في حركة أرسلان البساسيري التي نجحت في فرض سيطرة الخلافة الفاطمية على عاصمة الخلافة العباسية لفترة تقارب العام.
