يضرب كتاب روائع في حياة الصحابة مثالا عن حياة الصحابة فعلى سبيل المثال لقد عاش علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه في خلافته، يلبس الخشن من الثياب، ويتعفف عن أموال المسلمين، قال أبو سعيد الأزدي : رأيت عليا في السوق وهو يقول : من عنده قميص صالح بثلاثة دراهم ؟، فقال رجل : عندي يا أمير المؤمنين، فجاء به، فأعجبه، فأعطاه ثم لبسه، فإذا هو يفضل عن أطراف أصابعه، فأمر به لقطع ما فضل عن أصابعه، وقد عوتب في لباسه الرخيص، فقال : مالك واللبوس ؟ إن لبوسي هذا أب عد من الكبر، وأجدر أن يقتدي به المسلم.
