ينقسم الكتاب إلى خمسة فصول يسبقها تمهيد بعنوان \"الأدب والعلم\" للتعريف بهما وتوضيح العلاقة بينهما وأثر كلا منهما في الآخر أما الفصل الثاني يتتبع جذور أدب الخيال العلمي المصري عند رواده الأوائل ويرصد مراحل تطوره ويأتي الفصل الثالث ليتناول ميلاد ونشأة نهاد شريف كنموذج لكتاب أدب الخيال العلمي وأهم المحطات في حياته من المشاركات والجوائز والوظائف التي عمل بها والفصل الرابع يتحدث عن موضوعات أدب الخيال العلمي ومصادرها عند نهاد شريف وأخيرا الفصل الخامس يتناول فنون أدب الخيال العلمي عند نهاد شريف والتي تمثلت في فن القصة القصيرة وفن الرواية وفن المسرحية.
