ترتبط مصر وغانا بعلاقات تاريخية وطيدة ومميزة تعود لخمسينيات القرن الماضي منذ استقلال غانا عن بريطانيا في عام 1957 حيث تحظى غانا بالاهتمام من جانب مصر خاصة منذ عصر الرئيس نكروما والموقف المصري المساند له في تلك الفترة وجدير بالذكر إن أول رئيس غاني \"كوامى نكروما\" والذى قاد بلاده نحو الاستقلال تزوج من سيدة مصرية هي \"فتحية نيكروما\" كما أصبحت مصر واحدة من أوائل الدول ذات العلاقات الدبلوماسية الجيدة مع غانا حيث كان نكروما صديقا مقربا من الرئيس المصري جمال عبد الناصر ويتصور البعض أن علاقات مصر بغانا ترجع لخمسينيات القرن الماضي بداية اشتعال حركات التحرر في القارة غير أن الحقيقة أنها تمتد لأبعد من ذلك فتعود للقرون الوسطي حينما كانت هناك ممالك أفريقية كمملكة غانا التي اسلمت وارتبطت بعلاقات تجارية وثقافية مع الدول الإسلامية وعلي رأسها مصر.
