Overview
يبحث كتاب (الدستور والأحرار) في الأحداث المرتبطة بالحياة الدستورية التي واجهتها الدولة العثمانية منذ اعتلاء السلطان عبد الحميد الثاني العرش عام 1876 م وإقراره دستور مدحت باشا في الثالث والعشرين من كانون الأول / ديسمبر من العام نفسه، هذا الدستور الذي ما لبث أن ألغاه، ومن ثم أعاد العمل به مرغما عندما فرضه الانقلاب العسكري الذي قام به الجيش العثماني الثالث المرابط في سالونيك، وهدد بالزحف على العاصمة الأستانة عام 1908 م، تم ذلك بدفع وتحريض من جمعية (الاتحاد والترقي)، ويركز المؤلف في كتابه على شخصيتين رئيسيتين هما : السلطان عبد الحميد الثاني، وصانع الدستور مدحت باشا، ويتطرق أيضا إلى بعض الصدور العظام (رؤساء الوزارات) في تلك الحقبة.
