يتحدث الكتاب عن أن الفعل في العربية يدل على (الحدث) وعلى (زمن) وقوعه ونعلم أنه يتميز بموضوعين مختلفين هما أنواعه وأحواله ويقسم إلى قسمين رئيسين الفعل التام، والفعل الناقص وتعلم كذلك أن الفعل التام يقسم إلى قسمين متعد ولازم وأن المتعدي يقسم أيضا إلى قسمين المعلوم فاعله والمجهول فاعله وأن أحوال الفعل تكون في الأوضاع التالية الصيغة وتشمل الفعل الماضي، والفعل المضارع، وفعل الأمر.
