يصور المؤلف برواياته كثيرا من أحداث مجتمعه في الثلث الأول من القرن العشرين. فكان في طليعة روائيي تلك الفترة. رواية الأقارب من أهم ما كتب. فهي تصور انهيار الطبقة الوسطى في فترة معينة من تاريخ هنغاريا وكأن الرواية مرآة لتغيير لا بد قادم لمصلحة المسحوقين في المجتمع. كل ذلك بأسلوب خلاق مبدع قل نظيره. ليستطيع القارئ أخذ الفائدة والحكمة مما كتب في هذه الرواية.
