في هذا الكتاب حكاية عمر الخيام وما يدور حوله من أخبار ونوادر، فهو الطبيب العالم الرياضي والفلكي والشاعر الحكيم وحجة الحق، وعلامة الزمان لقد تناول هذا الكتاب ما طرحه الخيام في رباعياته من هواجس وآراء وأفكار مختلفة في الحياة والكون، ذلك أن أفكاره تتلاءم وتساؤلات الإنسان الحائر في بحر هذا الوجود وفي الكتاب كلام على اللاأدرية والأبيقورية عند الخيام وإن الفلسفة التي نادى بها الخيام في رباعياته منذ أكثر من ثمانية قرون تتوافق والتيارات الفلسفية الحديثة التي ظهرت في أوروبا منذ حوالى القرنين ومن هنا كان الإقبال الشديد على الرباعيات في العالم، وقد ترجمت إلى لغات مختلفة ولقد سبق الخيام عصره بمئات السنين.
