تستأنف المقالات في هذا المجلد المناظرة التي سبق أن بدأتها في كتاب ضد المنهج (وللاختصار سوف أشير إليه بالحرفين ض م)، كما أنها تطور هذه المناظرة أكثر، فثمة ردود على هذه الانتقادات، وثمة مادة جديدة كنت قد أعددتها للنشر في ورقة سابقة، ولكنني أم أتمكن من استخدامها، كما أن ثمة منافسة ممتدة عن مذهب النسبية ودور العلم (المذهب العقلي) في مجتمع حر، ومثل الكتاب الأسبق فإن هذا المجلد يتوخى نفس الهدف، أن يزيل العوائق التي ابتدعها المثقفون والمتخصصون لتقاليدهم وأن يهيئ السبيل لإبعاد المتخصصين (العلماء) أنفسهم عن الحياة في مراكز المجتمع الحساسة.
