تبدأ أحداث القصة بقلادة عريضة من زهور اللوتس الزرقاء وأوراق الزيتون والصفصاف انتقتها أرملة شابة لم يتعد عمرها الخمسة عشر ربيعا ووضعها الكهنة في حوالي 1345 قبلا الميلاد على صدر مومياء الملك توت عنخ آمون، من أجل تزيينه لمأدبة الخلود التي سوف يحضرها المرافقون الجنائزيون بعد الانتهاء من دفنه، هذه الباقة وحدها استطاعت أن تغير مسار اهتمامات شاب جامعي يعيش في أقصى أذربيجان بعد أن وقف طابورا طويلا استغرق أكثر من ثلاث ساعات في موسكو، ليشاهد قناع توت عنخ آمون. منذ هذا اليوم لم يستطع شيئا سوى الانكباب على دراسة تاريخ مصر القديم، فقد هام-كما يحلو له دائما أن يردد-بكل ما يتعلق بالملك الشاب توت عنخ آمون.
