the employee integration equation
For many years, the word onboarding referred solely to the early-stage orientation of new hires. When more progressive companies used the term (and if they used it at all, it generally meant they were, indeed, progressive), they also may have been talking about the goal of bringing new hires up to speed in their new jobs. However, neither of the above definitions captures what Ferrazzi Greenlight considers truly successful onboarding -- a more methodical, longer-term approach that increases employee productivity engagement, and retention, that's why the company coaches clients toward a far broader, more robust, manager-accelerated employee integration process. Although many organizations focus their orientation programs on the first few weeks, most do not anticipate the more critical period that follows. By expanding the focus beyond the first couple of weeks and providing ongoing development and engagement check-ins throughout the first six months, companies will be better able to reduce the average time it takes an employee to reach full productivity -- while increasing the likelihood of retaining that person longer.
