Vibrio harveyi: a serious pathogen of fish and invertebrates in mariculture
2020
Vibrio harveyi
, which belongs to family
Vibrionaceae
of class
Gammaproteobacteria
, includes the species
V. carchariae
and
V. trachuri
as its junior synonyms. The organism is a well-recognized and serious bacterial pathogen of marine fish and invertebrates, including penaeid shrimp, in aquaculture. Diseased fish may exhibit a range of lesions, including eye lesions/blindness, gastro-enteritis, muscle necrosis, skin ulcers, and tail rot disease. In shrimp,
V. harveyi
is regarded as the etiological agent of luminous vibriosis in which affected animals glow in the dark. There is a second condition of shrimp known as
Bolitas negricans
where the digestive tract is filled with spheres of sloughed-off tissue. It is recognized that the pathogenicity mechanisms of
V. harveyi
may be different in fish and penaeid shrimp. In shrimp, the pathogenicity mechanisms involved the endotoxin lipopolysaccharide, and extracellular proteases, and interaction with bacteriophages. In fish, the pathogenicity mechanisms involved extracellular hemolysin (encoded by duplicate hemolysin genes), which was identified as a phospholipase B and could inactivate fish cells by apoptosis, via the caspase activation pathway.
V. harveyi
may enter the so-called viable but nonculturable (VBNC) state, and resuscitation of the VBNC cells may be an important reason for vibriosis outbreaks in aquaculture. Disease control measures center on dietary supplements (including probiotics), nonspecific immunostimulants, and vaccines and to a lesser extent antibiotics and other antimicrobial compounds.

Clinical value of circulating tumor cells and hematological parameters in 617 Chinese patients with colorectal cancer: retrospective analysis
2023
Background
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have been a non-invasive technique which allows investigation of tumor characteristics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between circulating tumor cells and colorectal cancer.
Methods
The clinical data of 617 patients with colorectal cancer from October 2019 to March 2022 were retrospectively collected to analyze the correlation between CTCs and clinicopathologic characteristics.
Results
The CTCs value increased with the progression of Tumor(T) stage,Metastasis(M) stage and Tumor Node Metastasis(TNM) stage (
P
< 0.05), but not with Node (N) stage (
P
> 0.05). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that CTCs, CEA, CA125 and CA199 were independent risk factors for CRC metastasis. Compared with CTCs, CEA, CA125 and CA199, the Logistic model had the highest AUC (AUC = 0.778,95%CI: 0.732–0.824), and the specificity and sensitivity were 82.9% and 63.2%, respectively. After operation, chemo-radiotherapy and other treatment for CRC, CTCs and CEA were significantly decreased compared with before treatment (
P
< 0.05). In addition, Spearman Correlation showed significant correlation between CTCs and IgG (
P
= 0.000).
Conclusion
CTCs, CEA, CA125 and CA199 were independent risk factors for CRC metastasis.CTCs can be used for the prediction of tumur metastasis, and the evaluation of therapeutic effect.

Integrated Communication, Sensing, and Computation Framework for 6G Networks
2024
In the sixth generation (6G) era, intelligent machine network (IMN) applications, such as intelligent transportation, require collaborative machines with communication, sensing, and computation (CSC) capabilities. This article proposes an integrated communication, sensing, and computation (ICSAC) framework for 6G to achieve the reciprocity among CSC functions to enhance the reliability and latency of communication, accuracy and timeliness of sensing information acquisition, and privacy and security of computing to realize the IMN applications. Specifically, the sensing and communication functions can merge into unified platforms using the same transmit signals, and the acquired real-time sensing information can be exploited as prior information for intelligent algorithms to enhance the performance of communication networks. This is called the computing-empowered integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) reciprocity. Such reciprocity can further improve the performance of distributed computation with the assistance of networked sensing capability, which is named the sensing-empowered integrated communications and computation (ICAC) reciprocity. The above ISAC and ICAC reciprocities can enhance each other iteratively and finally lead to the ICSAC reciprocity. To achieve these reciprocities, we explore the potential enabling technologies for the ICSAC framework. Finally, we present the evaluation results of crucial enabling technologies to show the feasibility of the ICSAC framework.

A skin-interfaced three-dimensional closed-loop sensing and therapeutic electronic wound bandage
2025
Chronic wound healing is a complex and long-standing problem, that has been a major and critical clinical concern around the world for years. Recent advances in digital wound dressings open new possibilities for solving the problem. Here, we report a battery-free, fully permeable, skin-adhesive, stretchable electronic wound bandage (iSAFE) for intelligent wound management. This electronic bandage exhibits superior properties in multiple features and can be conformally adhered to the skin wound. In addition, the iSAFE can accurately assess the wound conditions in-situ and thus adaptively perform localized drug release. The results from both in vitro and in vivo studies on animals prove the validity of wound monitoring, wound healing boosting and intelligent closed-loop wound management. Clinical trials on patients across age 18 to 95 with various types of wounds are performed. These results all indicate the unique and universality of the reported technology for wound monitoring and management.
Electronic wound bandages have to balance conformability and wound healing properties. Here, the authors develop a smart patch (iSAFE) using biomaterials with bioelectronics to facilitate permeability with waterproofing. This achieves intelligent wound management with real-time wound monitoring and active therapy.

Improving the Spatial Accessibility of Community-Level Healthcare Service toward the ‘15-Minute City’ Goal in China
2022
Background: The recent global COVID-19 pandemic serves as another reminder that people in different urban neighborhoods need equal access to basic medical services. This study aims to improve the spatial accessibility of healthcare services toward the ‘15-minute city’ goal. Methods: We chose Zhengzhou, China, as a case study. To improve spatial accessibility, two optimization models of optimal supply-demand allocation (OSD) and the capacitated p-medina problem (CPMP) were used. Spatial accessibility in this study is defined as the walking time from the communities to healthcare centers. Results: For the current status of healthcare services at the community level, the mean travel time is 18.3 min, and 39.6% of residents can access healthcare services within a 15-minute travel time. Population coverage within a 15-minute walking time is significantly lower than the national target of 80%. After redefining the service areas through OSD allocation, the mean travel time was reduced to 16.5 min, and 45.1% of the population could reach services. Furthermore, the 60 newly proposed healthcare centers selected by the CPMP model could potentially increase by 35.0% additional population coverage. The average travel time was reduced to 10 min. Conclusions: Both the redefinition of the service areas and the opening of new service centers are effective ways to improve the spatial accessibility of healthcare services. Two methods of this study have implications for urban planning practices towards the 15-minute city.

Wearable Sensors for Motion and Electrophysiological Signal Tracking in XR
Extended-reality (XR) technology is transforming digital interaction by blending virtual elements with the physical world via portable devices. Accurate body movement recognition and electrophysiological monitoring are crucial for immersive XR experiences. However, the bulky and complex design of current devices limits their adoption. Innovations in material science have led to the development of flexible wearable sensors that address these issues with their soft or even stretchable features, which allow the materials to conformal mount the skin and minimize motion interference, thus enhancing movement detection. This review paper discusses the significance of motion recognition and related electrophysiological signal monitoring for XR systems and highlights the benefits of flexible wearable sensors. We showcase the latest progress in these sensors and their prospective utility in capturing user movement and transmitting electrophysiological signals in XR, thereby enabling personalized experiences. Furthermore, we examine the current limitations, the primary challenges, and the prospective future developments of these novel flexible wearable sensors.

HIF1A-AS2 promotes the metabolic reprogramming and progression of colorectal cancer via miR-141-3p/FOXC1 axis
lncRNA can regulate tumorigenesis development and distant metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the detailed molecular mechanisms are still largely unknown. Using RNA-sequencing data, RT-qPCR, and FISH assay, we found that HIF1A-AS2 was upregulated in CRC tissues and associated with poor prognosis. Functional experiments were performed to determine the roles of HIF1A-AS2 in tumor progression and we found that HIF1A-AS2 can promote the proliferation, metastasis, and aerobic glycolysis of CRC cells. Mechanistically, HIF1A-AS2 can promote FOXC1 expression by sponging miR-141-3p. SP1 can transcriptionally activate HIF1A-AS2. Further, HIF1A-AS2 can be packaged into exosomes and promote the malignant phenotype of recipient tumor cells. Taken together, we discovered that SP1-induced HIF1A-AS2 can promote the metabolic reprogramming and progression of CRC via miR-141-3p/FOXC1 axis. HIF1A-AS2 is a promising diagnostic marker and treatment target in CRC.

Background
Ducks are globally important poultry species and a major source of farm animal products, including meat, eggs, and feathers. A thorough understanding of the functional genomic and transcriptomic sequences is crucial for improving production efficiency.
Result
This study constructed the largest duck mRNA expression atlas among all waterfowl species to date. The atlas encompasses 1,257 tissue samples across 30 tissue types, representing all major organ systems. Using advanced clustering analysis, we established co-expression network clusters to describe the transcriptional features in the duck mRNA expression atlas and, when feasible, assign these features to unique tissue types or pathways. Additionally, we identified 27 low-variance, highly expressed housekeeping genes suitable for gene expression experiments. Furthermore, in-depth analysis revealed potential sex-biased gene expression patterns within tissues and specific gene expression profiles in meat-type and egg-type ducks, providing valuable resources to understand the genetic basis of sex differences and particular phenotypes. This research elucidates the biological processes affecting duck productivity.
Conclusion
This study presents the most extensive gene expression atlas for any waterfowl species to date. These findings are of significant value for advancing duck biological research and industrial applications.
