Mother's Day was last Sunday. The following Wednesday, I received in the mail an advertisement card from the U.S. Postal Service stating, \"Express Mail: Overnight delivery for those last-minutes gifts. We even deliver on Sunday. So your Mother's Day gift can actually arrive on Mother's Day.\" Children should be taught to understand that the lesson within [Madonna]'s image is one of resilience and self-reliance. The sexuality she exudes and sometimes exploits is but a reflection of what we have become as a society. Madonna, as a single parent, is sure to raise a successful, strong child regardless of the mother's marital status. While reading \"Middle-class blues\" I kept hoping to find some mention of the reasons why we \"have more, but seem to work harder to keep it.\" The symptom of the disease with which we all are infected is inflation. The causes of the disease are the debauchery of our money supply by removing it from the gold and silver standard, the government spending vastly more than it confiscates in taxes and borrowing trillions of dollars, and academia perpetuating the lie that inflation is caused by rising prices and wages. The cure is self-evident.

As usual, [Cynthia Tucker]'s tirade on affirmative action misses the real point. Cynthia claims that although she owes her job to affirmative action, she was qualified to do the job so that makes everything OK. The real point is that her affirmative action designation denied another person, possibly better qualified, better educated and certainly the possessor of more common sense, a job just because he/she was of the non-preferred color. I did not live in Atlanta during the terms of Mayor [Ivan Allen Jr.] or Mayor [Maynard Jackson], so what I know about the accomplishments of both men comes from reading the coverage of their respective deaths in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It seems that one man held this city together during its most difficult period, brought development of the expressways that lead to our incredible growth, and brought us the Atlanta Braves. The other man redeveloped an airport that was created by a former mayor (enriching himself and his friends in the process), was the first man of his race to become mayor of Atlanta, and helped bring the Olympic Games to Atlanta. Both were great leaders, but it seems like the one with the greater accomplishments is being overlooked in the newspaper's quest to rename a prominent Atlanta landmark. Transportation programs in Georgia should be planned with the needs of all taxpayers in mind. Our Georgia Department of Transportation, however, purchased land for the defunct, corrupt, and ill-conceived Northern Arc and, now, Commissioner [Wayne Hill] of Gwinnett County has brazenly begun serious lobbying efforts to convince Gov. [Sonny Perdue] to donate the land, worth an estimated $35 million, solely to Gwinnett.

Saturday Talk
I own a pair just like those --- except, unlike [Bush], I earned mine, wearing them proudly during two consecutive tours of Vietnam combat duty, nine months each. Bush could have offered his services there but declined, opting instead to remain discreetly behind and save Texas from surprise attack. The week before Easter, we received a donation of $100 from our employer to buy Easter baskets for the children at Fort Stewart, whose parents were serving with the 1st BDE 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) in Iraq. North Korea has sure changed its tune. Surely the Iranian people have had their hopes of freedom aroused. But here in our country, liberal leftist Bush-haters refuse to see the possibilities afforded by the swift and mighty destruction of the former Iraqi regime.
