IMPULSE!, YOUR REVIEWS: POM WONDERFUL, A new juice on the loose
[Aleatra Rodriguez] says: Pom is enjoyable and super-good for you, but it's definitely not the most refreshing juice I've ever tasted. Reminiscent of unsweetened grape juice or a sort of cran-grape hybrid, the flavor is tart but different and interesting in that pomegranate way. Pretty heavy in a glass by itself, this juice turned me into a veritable mixologist. I found it works great in lieu of cranberry in vodka-based cocktails and adding a good splash to a glass of something fizzy - seltzer, champagne, 7-Up. I like to think of it as juice with potential. While I like pomegranates in fruit form, the Pom juice experience for me was a bitter one. Far from the \"refreshing\" and \"delicious\" drink it's advertised to be, I liken Pom to a heavily concentrated cranberry juice that's tough to take even when thoroughly chilled. After three consecutive days of forcing myself to drink it, thinking it was perhaps an acquired taste (it's not), I consumed less than one-third of a 15-ounce bottle before tossing it down the drain.
IMPULSE!, YOUR REVIEWS: BRIDGEVIEW YACHT CLUB, Crowds boogying by the bay
Bridgeview is a good summer club when you need a break from the high-maintenance Hamptons. Open-air bars outside, big, packed dance floors inside and an awesome separate hip-hop room where we danced all night! The crowd was mixed - ranging from tight T-shirts and bling-bling to flip-flops and puka beads. Start early enough to get some good local seafood, have a drink or two, then make your way down to Bridgeview sometime after 11 p.m. to shake it all off. 1) PHOTO BY PABLO GARCIA CORRADI - Sandra Van de Wiel and Segal Magosi find a groove at the Bridgeview Yacht Club. IMPULSE!, YOUR REVIEWS: 'THE STEPFORD WIVES', Bring a date to 'Wives'
\"The Stepford Wives\" is amusing. The film attempts to make a sharp commentary on the take-no-prisoners mentality of the Manhattan world vs. the supposedly ideal suburban life of beauty. The film's stark contrast between two lifestyles - the career track and the Mommy track - shows the extreme of the choices women make today. [Aleatra Rodriguez] says: You already know what I'm going to say ... cute date night movie, a modern update on an old cult hit, great cast, blah, blah, blah. Glenn Close, Chris Walken and Bette Midler steal it - and that's just the supporting cast. Yet despite its shining stars, this film was a bit lackluster. I remember the first words I said walking out of the theater - \"Eh, it was pretty good.\" Something was just missing and I can't quite put my finger on it. Wait for the DVD to figure it out for yourself.
IMPULSE!, YOUR REVIEWS: MIRAGE, Drinks, sphinx and high jinks
T.G.I.F. at Mirage. Get out of work in time to rock happy hour here! No cover, free buffet and half-price drinks until 8 p.m. Try to snag any of the booths that wrap around the inside of the dance floor area and you have found yourself prime VIP-style seating. Mirage offers a great decor/atmosphere with one of the better after- work deals on Long Island. Inside tip: For parking, the early bird catches the worm. This place was good! Not too far, not too expensive, but nice and big and lots of fun. Three huge bars, lots of random places to sit and have a moment and - if you can sweet-talk your way in - several VIP areas. With its cool Egyptian theme, this club looked awesome, all the way down to the sexy go-go dancers in tiny golden outfits. The giant dance floor was the perfect playground for the great mix of music and people there on a Saturday night. Definitely not an illusion, it's a Mirage worth seeing for yourself.
IMPULSE, YOU REVIEW: WHISKEY, Intoxicatingly intimate
If you're into a more \"intimate\" environment, then Whiskey is for you. The cover was cheap, the drinks reasonably priced, the sound system intense and the eye candy plentiful, but the place was too small for me. If you like clubs but don't like a huge place, Whiskey may be more to your liking. As soon as you step in, the unique, futuristic decor and lighting put you in the chill-out, lounge mood while the music instantly makes you want to dance. Whiskey is a good place for a date or a night out with the girls. Everything was on point from the music to the friendly bartenders. Not too many people were there, but Whiskey has the potential to become the Saturday night hot spot. impulse! 'Upscale without attitude'
Posh (adj.) Elegant; Fashionable. Arrive by 11:30 p.m. on Saturday to beat the crowds. Be sure to dress well and bring lots of cash, as there is no shortage of beautiful people and a round of drinks for your friends might cost more than a day of shopping for your trendy outfit! Despite the local stigma, Posh is upscale without the attitude. The crowd was friendly, outgoing, and slightly more mature than in other LI clubs. I definitely plan on coming back for more! [Aleatra Rodriguez] says: If you're in the mood to get dressed up and summon your inner Carrie Bradshaw, Posh is a great place to start. Sexy minimalist decor, interesting lighting and pretty people (some trying a little too hard) can distract you from the long wait for the bathrooms or bartenders, who were great when they could get to you. The music was good, but they definitely need to play more hip- hop. Overall, Posh was in fact, pretty posh.
