Busy Calvary Christian boys coach Rogers hooked on hoops
2013
\"I would rather wear out than rust out,'' [John Rogers] said. \"There was a need in our community for some leadership at the local level, and I decided to run for city commission. As far as basketball, I'm just passionate about the game.'' \"We had worked plane crashes before, but I've never taken one out of a house before. That was a first,'' Rogers said. \"We had to lift that motor off of that pilot. He was pinned, and we had to get that body out. That was kind of tough, thinking this man was en route to fly home. One minute he's here, and the next minute he's like a vapor and he's gone. Sure, it's a little tough.'' \"At the time I was new to the area and I needed someone on my staff whom I felt like I could trust, that I could work with and knew the community,'' [Gary McDaniel] said. \"John loves the sport. He loves the game, and that's always shown in every way. His love for the game is probably what drove him to want to be a part of the game.''

Team effort allows DeLand girls hoops team to rout Lake Brantley
2013
DeLand's constant pressure was too much for Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley, allowing the Bulldogs to come away with a 68-32 victory Tuesday night at DeLand Gymnasium. \"The (Sanford) Seminole loss and the Atlantic loss (DeLand's lone losses) are the two best things that could've happened to us because we realized that more girls are going to have to step up,'' DeLand coach Brittaney Cymbolin said. \"Our girls realized that we just can't rely on Tyisha (Moore) for all of our scoring.'' \"What was the difference was our pressure,'' [Cintrell Johnson] said. \"They found some open spots early, but then we tightened up and played better.''

What drivers said Friday at NASCAR Preseason Thunder
2013
\"On New Year's (wife) Ingrid and I went to a couple different parties and ended up at one, which was really the party of the year if you ask me. It was an amazing event that P. Diddy had. We were just hanging out having a good time and on walks [Clint Bowyer] and [Kevin Harvick] and a couple other folks. I don't know, it was a great New Year's. I enjoyed myself very much.\" \"I was hoping I didn't start it but I don't know if I did. It's unfortunate. Hopefully, everybody's OK.\"

Berry, Orlando Lake Highland Prep handle Atlantic, 67-44
2013
\"I felt like our level of intensity in the second half just wasn't quite there,'' Atlantic coach Kyle Lefebvre said. \"There were just a couple of plays that we could've finished, and we just didn't have quite the same competitiveness in the second half.'' \"I tore my meniscus,'' [Berry] said. \"I think I'm (about back), but tonight I got in early foul trouble. I think I'm about back to myself.'' \"We weren't executing real well, and we were a little flat at times,'' [Jeff Turner] said. \"We got a little too cute a few times. The thing we're working on is getting Joel back into games and how we're going to rotate.''
