Long-Term Outcome of Open or Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Patients with large abdominal aortic aneurysms were assigned to undergo open surgical repair or endovascular repair. At 6 years, the cumulative survival rates did not differ significantly between groups. The rate of secondary intervention was significantly higher with endovascular repair.

Randomized trials have shown that endovascular repair offers a perioperative survival benefit over open repair for patients with a large abdominal aortic aneurysm. However, this advantage is not sustained beyond 2 years after surgery.

ANS Responses and Facial Expressions Differentiate between the Taste of Commercial Breakfast Drinks

The high failure rate of new market introductions, despite initial successful testing with traditional sensory and consumer tests, necessitates the development of other tests. This study explored the ability of selected physiological and behavioral measures of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) to distinguish between repeated exposures to foods from a single category (breakfast drinks) and with similar liking ratings. In this within-subject study 19 healthy young adults sipped from five breakfast drinks, each presented five times, while ANS responses (heart rate, skin conductance response and skin temperature), facial expressions, liking, and intensities were recorded. The results showed that liking was associated with increased heart rate and skin temperature, and more neutral facial expressions. Intensity was associated with reduced heart rate and skin temperature, more neutral expressions and more negative expressions of sadness, anger and surprise. Strongest associations with liking were found after 1 second of tasting, whereas strongest associations with intensity were found after 2 seconds of tasting. Future studies should verify the contribution of the additional information to the prediction of market success.

Quality of reporting of pre-recorded music interventions in surgical patients ‐ A systematic review

Perioperative music interventions are promising, with substantial beneficial effects on patients. However, adequate reporting is crucial for interpreting the outcomes and implementing the interventions. Our objective is to analyze the reporting quality of perioperative music interventions and to provide recommendations and a research agenda for future trials.
This study utilized data from a systematic review, that was conducted as part of a separate previous analysis by Geensen, Dirven et al. For this analysis, a PROSPERO registration (CRD42023427138) was formalized. The Template for intervention Description and Replication (TiDieR) checklist was adapted and used. Nineteen intervention items were assessed, categorized in the aim, the core and the implementation.
Due to narrowed inclusion criteria, ten music intervention studies were included. None of the studies completely reported all intervention items. The reporting of core intervention items were poorly described. Complete description of implementation items, such as fidelity and modifications, was scarce.
Perioperative music studies often lack the complete reporting of essential intervention items. This hinders replicability, generalization of the results and might contribute to research waste. We recommend adequate reporting in future studies to avoid these problems, by using our adapted TIDieR checklist.
•This is the first systematic review evaluating music intervention reporting using the TiDieR checklist.•Insufficient reporting was present in all included studies, impairing future implementation.•Potential to enhance reporting in tailoring and adherence assessments exists.•Our adapted checklist and research agenda are recommended for future research.

TRACKING THE URBAN CHAMELEON – TOWARDS A HYBRID CHANGE DETECTION OF GRAFFITI

Colourful and ever-changing: Graffiti can be considered the urban chameleon skin. At the Donaukanal (Eng. Danube Channel), Vienna's central waterway and one of the largest and most active graffiti-scapes worldwide, this metaphor applies like hardly anywhere else. Every day a multitude of graffiti is destroyed by the creation of new works. Recently, efforts have been made to mitigate this constant loss of cultural heritage along the Donaukanal by systematically documenting the graffiti, mainly using photography and photogrammetry. However, keeping track of the newly added works is very time-consuming and often like finding needles in a haystack, considering the large extent and high volatility of the monitored area. Thus, an automated graffiti change detection would significantly reduce the effort and avoid overlooking graffiti.This contribution outlines the main challenges in image-based change detection for cultural heritage and proposes a hybrid graffiti change detection method. The investigated method exploits and combines an established pixel-based change detection algorithm, the Iteratively Multivariate Alteration Detection, with a novel descriptor-based method. The latter relies on image features, rather than pixels as analysis unit and can robustly filter false alarms from the high-performing but noise-prone pixel-based approach. Overall, the results indicate that the proposed method can largely automate image-based change detection of graffiti-scapes. It can uncover graffiti-related changes and robustly distinguish them from other image differences such as shadows but tends to overlook small-scale graffiti, indicating the need for further fine-tuning.

Circulating endothelial cells transiently increase in peripheral blood after kidney transplantation

The diagnosis of kidney allograft rejection is based on late histological and clinical markers. Early, specific and minimally-invasive biomarkers may improve rejection diagnosis. Endothelial cells (EC) are one of the earliest targets in kidney transplant rejection. We investigated whether circulating EC (cEC) could serve as an earlier and less invasive biomarker for allograft rejection. Blood was collected from a cohort of 51 kidney transplant recipients before and at multiple timepoints after transplantation, including during a for cause biopsy. The number and phenotype of EC was assessed by flow-cytometric analysis. Unbiased selection of EC was done using principal component (PCA) analysis. Paired analysis revealed a transient cEC increase of 2.1-fold on the third day post-transplant, recovering to preoperative levels at seventh day post-transplant and onwards. Analysis of HLA subtype demonstrated that cEC mainly originate from the recipient. cEC levels were not associated with allograft rejection, allograft function or other allograft pathologies. However, cEC in patients with allograft rejection and increased levels of cEC showed elevated levels of KIM-1 (kidney injury marker-1). These findings indicate that cEC numbers and phenotype are affected after kidney transplantation but may not improve rejection diagnosis.

GOOD VIBRATIONS? HOW IMAGE STABILISATION INFLUENCES PHOTOGRAMMETRY

Image stabilisation (IS) is a family of approaches whose aim is to reduce motion blur in still images and shaking effect in video frames. A variety of techniques are currently implemented in cameras and camcorders: some involve hardware solutions, other are software approaches. In general, IS for still photography entails hardware in-camera or in-lens solutions. Video stabilisation, on the other hand, can be accomplished with software algorithms, either in real-time within the camera or in post-processing.Whereas IS aids photography and video making, its influence on the photogrammetric 3D modelling process has not been investigated. This article addresses this aspect. To this purpose, several laboratory and real-world tests were carried out, whose results showed that IS must be disabled when accuracy matters in photogrammetric projects. Details are provided in the manuscript.

Background
In solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients, transplant rejection during immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment for cancer is a clinical problem. Donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) can be detected in blood and is a sensitive biomarker for diagnosis of acute rejection in SOT recipients. To our best knowledge, this is the first case report of a kidney transplant recipient with advanced cancer treated with ICI who was monitored with dd-cfDNA.
Case presentation
A 72-year old female with a long-standing renal transplant was diagnosed with advanced melanoma in 2018 and was treated with the anti-PD1 antibody nivolumab. Within 12 days after the first administration of nivolumab, dd-cfDNA ratio increased to 23%, suggesting allograft rejection. Her kidney transplant function deteriorated and acute rejection was confirmed by renal transplant biopsy. As the rejection could not be controlled despite immunosuppressive treatment, a transplant nephrectomy was necessary and haemodialysis was started. Immunological analysis of the renal explant showed infiltration of alloreactive, nivolumab-saturated, PD1+ cytotoxic T cells. After transplant nephrectomy, she experienced nivolumab-related toxicity and rapid disease progression.
Conclusion
Clinicians prescribing ICIs should be aware that SOT recipients are at risk of transplant rejection as a result of T cell activation. Dd-cfDNA is a sensitive biomarker and should be further studied for early detection of transplant rejection. COMPUTER GRAPHICS MEETS IMAGE FUSION: THE POWER OF TEXTURE BAKING TO SIMULTANEOUSLY VISUALISE 3D SURFACE FEATURES AND COLOUR

Since a few years, structure-from-motion and multi-view stereo pipelines have become omnipresent in the cultural heritage domain. The fact that such Image-Based Modelling (IBM) approaches are capable of providing a photo-realistic texture along the threedimensional (3D) digital surface geometry is often considered a unique selling point, certainly for those cases that aim for a visually pleasing result. However, this texture can very often also obscure the underlying geometrical details of the surface, making it very hard to assess the morphological features of the digitised artefact or scene. Instead of constantly switching between the textured and untextured version of the 3D surface model, this paper presents a new method to generate a morphology-enhanced colour texture for the 3D polymesh. The presented approach tries to overcome this switching between objects visualisations by fusing the original colour texture data with a specific depiction of the surface normals. Whether applied to the original 3D surface model or a lowresolution derivative, this newly generated texture does not solely convey the colours in a proper way but also enhances the smalland large-scale spatial and morphological features that are hard or impossible to perceive in the original textured model. In addition, the technique is very useful for low-end 3D viewers, since no additional memory and computing capacity are needed to convey relief details properly. Apart from simple visualisation purposes, the textured 3D models are now also better suited for on-surface interpretative mapping and the generation of line drawings.
