The chemical composition and molecular structure of the pitch-like products obtained by liquid-phase reaction of bituminous coal with heavy hydrocarbon fractions of coal and petroleum origin as solvents at a moderate temperature were comprehensively characterized in terms of a new aromatic feedstock for needle coke and other valuable high-tech carbon materials. The molecular parameters of the products were characterized by using FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and XPS. Liquid-phase chromatography was used to analyze benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) as a carcinogenicity marker. The chemical composition and the characteristics of the molecular structure of the products were shown to depend greatly on the solvent used. The product obtained using coal tar as a solvent was highly aromatic, its polyaromatic nuclei consisted predominantly of protonated and pericondensed cycles sparsely substituted by CH3 and occasionally CH2 groups. The product obtained using petroleum-derived heavy gas oil as solvent was much less aromatic and prone to autogenous surface oxidation. Its aromatic nuclei contained mainly protonated and highly alkylated catacondensed chains. The intermediate structural parameters were characteristic of the product obtained using binary solvent. A remarkable feature of the pitch-like products obtained was a reduced BaP concentration (up to 40 times compared to typical coal-tar pitch). In terms of the molecular structure, the pitch-like products obtained by low-temperature dissolution of coal can serve as a new polyaromatic feedstock with a reduced carcinogenicity for the production of valuable high-tech carbon materials, needle coke, in particular.

To investigate the effects of hypoxic exercise training on microRNA (miRNA) expression and the role of miRNA expression in regulating lipid metabolism, 20 dietary-induced obese SD rats were divided into a normoxic sedentary group (N, n=10) and a hypoxic exercise training group (H, n=10). After four weeks, measurements were taken of body weight, body length, fat mass, serum lipid concentration, miRNAs differentially expressed in rat liver, and gene and protein expression levels of perexisome proliferator activated receptor a (PPARα), fatty acid synthetase (FAS), and carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1A (CPTIA) in rat liver. Body weight, Lee's index, fat mass, fat/weight ratio, and serum levels of total cholesterol (TC) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were all significantly lower in the H group than in the N group (P〈0.01). Six miRNAs expressed significantly differently in the liver (P〈0.05). Specifically, expression levels of miR-378b were significantly lower in the H group than in the N group (P〈0.05). Compared with the normoxic sedentary group, hypoxic exercise training resulted in a lower ratio of FAS mRNA to CPTIA mRNA (P〈0.05), as well as lower CPT1A protein levels (P〈0.01), while a higher ratio of FAS to CPT1A protein levels (P〈0.01) was observed. In conclusion, hypoxic training may elevate the resistance of high fat diet induced obesity in rats by reducing the expression of miR-378b, and decrease the fatty acid mitochondrial oxidation in obese rat livers by decreasing the protein expression of CPTIA and increasing the protein expression ratio of FAS/CPTIA.

Despite recent advances in the management of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the prognosis of NSCLC is still relatively poor. Thus, it is of great importance to identify novel effective diagnostic and prognostic biomarker of NSCLC. A growing volume of literature has demonstrated the vital roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in cancer biology. Cancer-associated region long non-coding RNA (
CARLo-5
), a recently identified lncRNA, was initially characterized in colon cancer. However, little is known about its role in NSCLC. In the present study, a great upregulation of
CARLo-5
was observed in cancer tissues compared to their adjacent normal tissues. Meanwhile, patients with high
CARLo-5
expression have significantly poorer prognosis than those with low expression. Inhibition of
CARLo-5
by siRNA suppressed the proliferation, migration, and invasion in NSCLC cell lines in vitro. In addition, silencing of
CARLo-5
reversed the epithelial–mesenchymal transition in NSCLC cell line. Our study suggests that
CARLo-5
may represent a prognostic marker and a potential therapeutic target of NSCLC.

Patient-Reported Outcomes of Postoperative NSCLC Patients with or without Staged Chinese Herb Medicine Therapy during Adjuvant Chemotherapy (NALLC 2): A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

Objective
To investigate whether the combination of chemotherapy with staged Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) therapy could enhance health-related quality of life (QoL) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and prolong the time before deterioration of lung cancer symptoms, in comparison to chemotherapy alone.
Methods
A prospective, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial was conducted from December 14, 2017 to August 28, 2020. A total of 180 patients with stage I B–IIIA NSCLC from 5 hospitals in Shanghai were randomly divided into chemotherapy combined with CHM (chemo+CHM) group (120 cases) or chemotherapy combined with placebo (chemo+placebo) group (60 cases) using stratified blocking randomization. The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality-of-Life-Core 30 Scale (QLQ-C30) was used to evaluate the patient-reported outcomes (PROs) during postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with early-stage NSCLC. Adverse events (AEs) were assessed in the safety analysis.
Results
Out of the total 180 patients, 173 patients (116 in the chemo+CHM group and 57 in the chemo+placebo group) were included in the PRO analyses. The initial mean QLQ-C30 Global Health Status (GHS)/QoL scores at baseline were 57.16 ± 1.64 and 57.67 ± 2.25 for the two respective groups (
P
>0.05). Compared with baseline, the chemo+CHM group had an improvement in EORTC QLQ-C30 GHS/QoL score at week 18 [least squares mean (LSM) change 17.83, 95% confidence interval (CI) 14.29 to 21.38]. Conversely, the chemo+placebo group had a decrease in the score (LSM change −13.67, 95% CI −22.70 to −4.63). A significant between-group difference in the LSM GHS/QoL score was observed, amounting to 31.63 points (95% CI 25.61 to 37.64,

<0.001). The similar trends were observed in physical functioning, fatigue and appetite loss. At week 18, patients in the chemo+CHM group had a higher proportion of improvement or stabilization in GHS/QoL functional and symptom scores compared to chemo+placebo group (

Conclusion

Sparse SAR imaging based on L1/2 regularization

In this paper, a novel method for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging is proposed. The approach is based on L1/2 regularization to reconstruct the scattering field, which optimizes a quadratic error term of the SAR observation process subject to the interested scene sparsity. Compared to the conventional SAR imaging technique, the new method implements SAR imaging effectively at much lower sampling rate than the Nyquist rate, and produces high-quality images with reduced sidelobes and increased resolution. Also, over the prevalent greedy pursuit and L1 regularization based SAR imaging methods, there are remarkable performance improvements of the new method. On one hand, the new method significantly reduces the number of measurements needed for reconstruction, as supported by a phase transition diagram study. On the other hand, the new method is more robust to the observation noise. These fundamental properties of the new method are supported and demonstrated both by simulations and real SAR data experiments.

According to the above conclusion, this paper presents the design choices of application notes, study for public transport type escalator classification, management and peak evacuation design provides a theoretical basis.

Tumor initiation and growth depend on its microenvironment in which cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumor stroma play an important role. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and interleukin (IL)-6 signal pathways are involved in the crosstalk between tumor and stromal cells. However, how PGE2-mediated signaling modulates this crosstalk remains unclear. Here, we show that microRNA (miR)-149 links PGE2 and IL-6 signaling in mediating the crosstalk between tumor cells and CAFs in gastric cancer (GC). miR-149 inhibited fibroblast activation by targeting IL-6 and miR-149 expression was substantially suppressed in the CAFs of GC. miR-149 negatively regulated CAFs and their effect on GC development both in vitro and in vivo. CAFs enhanced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the stem-like properties of GC cells in a miR-149-1L-6-dependent manner. In addition to IL-6, PGE2 receptor 2 (PTGER2/EP2) was revealed as another potential target of miR-149 in fibroblasts. Furthermore, H. pylori infection, a leading cause of human GC, was able to induce cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)/PGE2 signaling and to enhance PGE2 production, resulting in the hypermethylation of miR-149 in CAFs and increased IL-6 secretion. Our findings indicate that miR-149 mediates the crosstalk between tumor cells and CAFs in GC and highlight the potential of interfering miRNAs in stromal cells to improve cancer therapy.

The green-tide-forming macroalga Ulva linza was profiled by transcriptome sequencing to ascertain whether the alga carries both C3 and C4 photosynthesis genes. The key enzymes involved in C4 metabolism including pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase (PPDK), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC), and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PCK) were found. When meas- ured under normal and different stress conditions, expression of rbcL was higher under normal conditions and lower under the adverse conditions, whereas that of PPDK was higher under some adverse conditions, namely desiccation, high salinity, and low salinity. Both ribulose-1, 5-biphosphate carboxylase (RuBPCase) and PPDK were found to play a role in carbon fixation, with significantly higher PPDK activity across the stress conditions. These results suggest that elevated PPDK activity alters carbon metabolism in U. linza leading to partial operation of the C4 carbon metabolism, a pathway that, under stress conditions probably contributes to the hardy character of U. linza and thus to its wide distribution.

The microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO-based varistors with the SiO2 content in the range of 0-1.00mol% were prepared by a solid reaction route. The varistors were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that the average grain size of ZnO decreases with the SiO2 content increasing. A new second phase (Zn2SiO4) and a glass phase (Bi2SiO5) are found. Element Si mainly exists in the grain boundary and plays an important role in controlling the Bi2O3 vaporization. The electric measurement shows that the incorporation of SiO2 can significantly improve the nonlinear properties of ZnO-based varistors, and the nonlinear coefficients of the varistors with SiO2 are in the range of 36.8-69.5. The varistor voltage reaches the maximum value of 463 V/mm and the leakage current reaches the minimum value of 0.11 μA at the SiO2 content of 0.75mol%.

Efficient DPCA SAR imaging with fast iterative spectrum reconstruction method

The displaced phase center antenna (DPCA) technique is an effective strategy to achieve wide-swath synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging with high azimuth resolution. However traditionally, it requires strict limitation of the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) to avoid non-uniform sampling. Otherwise, any deviation could bring serious ambiguity if the data are directly processed using a matched filter. To break this limitation, a recently proposed spectrum reconstruction method is capable of recovering the true spectrum from the nonuniform samples. However, the performance is sensitive to the selection of the PRF. Sparse regularization based imaging may provide a way to overcome this sensitivity. The existing time-domain method, however, requires a large-scale observation matrix to be built, which brings a high computational cost. In this paper, we propose a frequency domakt method, called the iterative spectrum reconstruction method, through integration of the sparse regularization technique with spectrum analysis of the DPCA signal. By approximately expressing the observation in the frequency domain, which is realized via a series of decoupled linear operations, the method performs SAR imaging which is then not directly based on the observation matrix, which reduces the computational cost from O(N2) to O(Nlog N) (where N is the number of range cells), and is therefore more efficient than the time domain method. The sparse regularization scheme, realized via a fast thresholding iteration, has been adopted in this method, which brings the robustness of the imaging process to the PRF selection. We provide a series of simulations and ground based experiments to demonstrate the high efficiency and robustness of the method. The simulations show that the new method is almost as fast as the traditional mono-channel algorithm, and works well almost independently of the PRF selection. Consequently, the suggested method can be accepted as a practical and efficient wide-swath SAR imaging technique.
