In paremiology, anti-proverbs are formed by transforming and twisting traditional proverbs to create humorous effects. The main purpose of creating anti-proverbs is to produce humor; therefore, the major of this study is to analyze humor in anti-proverbs. The study applied the hypothesis of the Script-based Semantic Theory of Humor to explain the reasons for describing anti-proverbs as funny texts; moreover, it discussed the proverb variations that are used to transform traditional proverbs into anti-proverbs. The results of the study showed that the script opposition between the first script, which is the traditional proverb meaning, and the second script, which is the anti-proverb's meaning, is the main cause of describing anti-proverbs as funny texts. The most used kind of script opposition is expected/unexpected opposition. It also showed that there are nine types of proverb variations used to form anti-proverbs. The most used type of these proverb variations is adding a tail to the original proverb; meanwhile, the least used types are substituting two or more words and adding two or more words to the traditional proverb.

According to cognitive semantics, language is part of a broader human cognitive ability and can thus only explain the world as individuals see it. The researcher will concentrate on conceptual metaphor theory, which is one of the major theories of cognitive semantics. The current study's concern is that learners struggle to represent and comprehend perfect conceptual senses of English proverbs, such as food proverbs. It seeks to identify the function of metaphorical terms in the interpretation of various English food proverbs. It is suggested that structural metaphors take precedence over other types of conceptual metaphors. It is confined to analyzing (10) selected English food proverbs from the dictionary of Margulis and Kholodnaya (2000). It has been discovered that conceptual metaphors can be understood based on the context in which they are used. It has also been discovered that structural metaphors are frequently used in the data in question.

English adages are approached to examine translated texts (standard &slang Arabic texts). Misunderstanding occurs in translation of some adages because of different connotations between Arabic and English. \"On the other hand, picking slang rendering is the most often detected trend nowadays because of many reasons such as: texts messages and the expansion of social media all over the world\". Accordingly, the study explores the students' choice (standard or slang adages) by presenting a questionnaire of two translated texts of the English adages. \"The informants should choose either a standard or a slang translation . It is concluded that most students choose standard version. Finally, this study suggests solutions to recognize standard Arabic.

This study aims to deal with proverbs related to nature from a cognitive viewpoint. The focus is on understanding the nature of proverbs which reflect intelligent behaviour based on information processing capacities of the human mind. It also attempts to show the complexity of the mental processing involved in nature-based proverbs. Understanding proverbs requires higher order cognitive abilities. Mental mechanisms working in the production and comprehension of proverbs are investigated. Data for the present study are collected from Internet and dictionaries and analyzed, using descriptive qualitative method to determine the cognitive structures and conceptual mechanisms that underlie proverbs. The results reveal that proverbs combine knowledge of natural phenomena with people's social experiences displaying the conceptual connections between source and target domains.

يتسم الشعر الإنجليزي باحتوائه على أبيات لا تختلف عن الأمثال الشعبية المتداولة من حيث الشكل والمضمون، وهذه الأبيات يمكن إضافتها إلى تراث الأمثال الإنجليزية التي نطق بها أسلافنا، ويرجع الفضل في تأكيد هذه السمة إلى العديد من الشعراء الذين اشتهروا بتأملاتهم ونظرتهم الفلسفية للأشياء مثل شكسبير وناش وهيريك وبروننج وييتس وغيرهم، وهذه الأبيات رغم ارتباطها بمناسبات ومواقف خاصة يمكن أن تستخدم في سياقات أوسع وما يميز هذا النوع الجديد من الأمثال هو أنه معلوم قائله وتاريخ كتابته وحتى ما طرأ عليه من تعديلات على خلاف تلك الأمثال التي توارثتها الأجيال عبر العصور. والهدف من هذه الدراسة هو إلقاء الضوء على هذه السمة للشعر الإنجليزي بتحليل بعض الأبيات التي تدور حول فكرتي الفناء ومرور الزمن، كما تعرض الدراسة للأدوات الفنية المستخدمة، والأغراض الأدبية المختلفة للشعراء وكيف أن الشعراء رغم اختلاف مدارسهم وعصورهم، يساهمون في تأكيد هذا البعد للشعر الإنجليزي.

أن لجميع المعاني ايحاءات على نحو أو أخر. لكن لكون الايحاءات نتاج مواقف حياتية معينة تؤطر التفاعلات في مواقف اجتماعية حقيقية، فإن مقدرة القارئ (أو السامع) على التأويل والتفسير تعتمد على قابليته الادراكية في فهم العالم من حوله اضافة الى مهاده الحضاري والاجتماعي الذي يشتمل على مختلف المعتقدات والمواقف والخبرات والقيم وغيرها في اللغة الام واللغة الهدف. وأن قلة المعرفة بشأن هذه الحقائق تسبب مشكلات كبيرة في عملية التواصل وبضمنها الترجمة، هذا أن لم نقل إخفاقا أو فشلا كاملا. تفترض هذه الدراسة، بناء على ما ورد أعلاه، ما يلي: كلما كان مهاد المترجم المعرفي أكثر تنوعا واتساعا كلما كانت قابليته للاستيعاب ومن ثم عملية الترجمة الى اللغة الهدف أكبر. وتخلص الدراسة إلى أن الجوانب البراغماطيقية للغة إضافة إلى السياقات التي تستخدم فيها الامثال تكشف عن معان ايحائية مختلفة لأمثال على هذه الشاكلة. كما ان الصعوبة والاشكال في ترجمة الامثال يكمنان في التعقيد الذي يكتنف المفاهيم التي تعبر عنها (أو المراد نقلها من خلالها)، فان كانت هذه المفاهيم معقدة، لن يكون تأويلها ممكننا إلا بالاعتماد على البعد الحضاري والثقافي لها وبالعكس.

Ghazala (1995, p.138) defines proverbs as \"special, fixed, unchanged phrases which have special, fixed, unchanged meanings\". Translation of proverbs is an ongoing debate between translators and linguists, and their argument is mainly focused on the appropriate techniques and strategies that should be used in translation. In this research, the researcher will discover the different strategies used in the translation of proverbs and will highlight the various factors that are interrelated with proverb translation. The researcher will use the deductive methodology to analyze 30 proverbs translated from Arabic to English. The researcher believes that literal translation is not a suitable strategy for proverb translation.

تعتبر الأمثال مرايا تعكس عادات وتقاليد وثقافات الشعوب المختلفة؛ فهي تعبر عن العديد من الموضوعات والقضايا في عبارات مختصرة، غير أنها تحمل في طياتها خبرات إنسانية متراكمة عبر السنين. وتتسم بعض الأمثال الإنجليزية بتشابهها مع أبيات الشعر الإنجليزي من حيث الشكل والمضمون، فمن الأمثل الإنجليزية ما يعتمد على الموسيقى والتي تحققها القافية وتجانس الأصوات من سواكن ومتحركات بأشكال مختلفة تعمل بمفردها أو متضافرة مع بعضها البعض، وهناك أيضا ما يتصف بحسن التقسيم بتكرار نفس التراكيب مما يضفي على المثل نوعا من التوازن اللغوي، ومنها ما يعتمد على الصورة الخيالية من كناية وتشبيه ومجاز وتشخيص وغير ذلك من وسائل رسم الصورة الخيالية. وهذه الوسائل الشعرية تعمل إما منفردة وإما مجتمعة؛ لبناء المثل وصبغه بالصبغة الشعرية المميزة له. والهدف من هذا البحث هو تناول بعض الأمثال الإنجليزية بالدراسة والتحليل؛ لإبراز هذه الوسائل الشعرية التي يجد المثل طريقه إلى التراث الإنجليزي بواسطتها، وكيف أن المثل يزداد جاذبية ورنينا كلما خرج المثل من عباءة الشعر.

The present analytical comparative study aims to investigate the semiotic meaning of some Arabic Kuwaiti proverbs and their equivalents in English. Besides, it explores translation strategies that have been employed in rendering those proverbs semiotically. The problem of the study arises from the difficulty in interpreting the semiotic signs of Kuwaiti proverbs and finding a suitable equivalent within the scope of translation from Arabic into English. The importance of the study emanates from its interdisciplinary nature--incorporating semiotics into translation. The corpus comprises fifteen Arabic Kuwaiti proverbs and their suggested equivalents in English. The source language proverbs have been quoted from Hamad Alsauaedan's (1992) The Kuwaiti Encyclopedia. The study adopts Peirce's (1931) Interpretive Model of Semiotics and Farghal and Almanna's (2015) strategies for translating semiotic signs. The findings of the study have indicated that Peirce's triadic model can apply not only to English but also to the Arabic Kuwaiti dialect. In addition, it is possible to modify the 'object' and the 'representamen' in the target language without affecting the source language's semiotic meaning. All the chosen proverbs were rendered functionally into English from a semiotic perspective. Using an idiomatic expression to render a Kuwaiti proverb into English semiotically is probable. Literal translation seems to be an acceptable method if the SL proverb and the TL proverb share a universal content. Accordingly, the study recommends translation students, practitioners, and other researchers explore other equivalent English proverbs that could express the same semiotic meaning in the Kuwaiti dialect.
