第二语言教学中语法教学的性质和任务
In the early stage of Chinese language learning, Arab students have not yet cultivated their Chinese language sense. Therefore, this has a certain influence on Chinese teaching tasks. Chinese non-native speakers tend to equate the positioning of Chinese grammar in Chinese teaching with the positioning of their native grammar. Students need to master a certain amount of vocabulary, including content words (in order to analyze word order) and function words (in order to understand the grammatical function of the words in Chinese sentences) in order to have a preliminary understanding of the theoretical Chinese grammatical form. Based on the new research results of Chinese grammar, this paper compares between Chinese grammar and Arabic grammar, and studies the techniques and methods of Chinese grammar teaching in the early teaching stage of Chinese as a second language, trying to explore how to improve the pertinence of Chinese grammar teaching for the lower grades of Arab students.
Acquisition de la Liaison en Français Langue Etrangère
La liaison est un phénomène qui, grâce à sa complexité et sa diversité, a suscité et suscite encore l'intérêt d'un grand nombre de chercheurs. Les travaux menés sur ce sujet concernent souvent quand et comment différents locuteurs natifs ou non-natifs réalisent ou ne réalisent pas la liaison en français. La difficulté posée par le phénomène de la liaison est encore plus évidente chez des locuteurs non-natifs pour qui une telle correspondance n'existe pas dans la langue maternelle\". (Màrtensson, 2013 : p 3). Cette étude vise à dresser la carte des difficultés de la liaison que rencontrent les apprenants arabophones en classe de Français Langue Etrangère. Les résultats de l'analyse des données montrent l'importance de la prononciation pour une maitrise élevée de la langue française.
מסוגלות טכנולוגית, יכולת מיינדפולנס ויעילות הלמידה המקוונת בקרב סטודנטים מהחברה העברית במהלך משבר COVID-19
עם התפשטות נגיף הקורונה למידה מקוונת הפכה לאחת האופציות המרכזיות עבור לימודים במוסדות להשכלה גבוהה בישראל. עם זאת, האפקטיביות והיעילות שלה עדיין לא נחקרו באופן מספק בקרב סטודנטים מן החברה הערבית בישראל. המחקר הנוכחי, שהסתמך על שיטה כמותית, בחן את הקשרים בין מסוגלות טכנולוגית, יכולת מיינדפולנס ותפיסת יעילות הלמידה המקוונת במהלך המשבר בקרב 378 סטודנטים הלומדים בשלושה מתוך שישה מוסדות להשכלה גבוהה שנבחרו באופן אקראי. מתוכם, כ- 85% סטודנטיות והשאר סטודנטים. גילם הממוצע של הסטודנטים 31.5)ס\"ת = 9.41 (. כ- 68% מן הסטודנטים לומדים לקראת תואר שני בחינוך ורובם המוחלט מורים, ו- 32% מהם לומדים לקראת תואר ראשון במקצועות החינוך השונים. הממצאים הראו מתאם חיובי בין מסוגלות טכנולוגית לתפיסת יעילות הלמידה המקוונת. כמו כן, נמצא כי יכולת מיינדפולנס ממתנת את הקשר בין מסוגלות טכנולוגית לבין תפיסת יעילותה של למידה מקוונת. גברים דיווחו על מסוגלות טכנולוגית גבוהה יותר בהשוואה לנשים. נוסף על כך, התגלו הבדלים מובהקים בתפיסת יעילות הלמידה המקוונת בין סטודנטים לתואר ראשון לבין אלו הלומדים לתואר שני, לטובת האחרונים. מחקר זה תורם לשיח המתעצב סביב למידה מקוונת לאחר המגפה, תוך חשיפת פערים מגדריים פוטנציאליים והדגשת החשיבות של מסוגלות טכנולוגית ויכולת מיינדפולנס עבור למידה מקוונת מוצלחת. לממצאי המחקר השלכות יישומיות עבור מעצבי תוכניות לימודים, מקבלי החלטות ומוסדות אקדמיים.
The Acquisition of English Body Idiomatic Expressions by Arab EFL Learners
This paper aims at examining the comprehension and the production of body idiomatic expressions by Arab learners. To this end, two tests one focusing on receptive skills and the other on productive ones - were distributed to the sample of the study which consisted of two independent groups in order to assess the role of proficiency level in acquiring these idioms. Group A consisted of fifteen Arab second year students in the M.A. program in Linguistics at the University of Jordan. Group B consisted of fifteen Arab third year students enrolled in the B.A English Language and literature Program at the University of Jordan. The study also investigates which idiom-type(s) and test(s) cause the biggest problem to Arab learners. It was shown that L2 learners made more errors in the idiom-production test than in comprehension-based one. And it seems that different idioms cause a problem for the Arab learners of English. The findings of the study suggest that Arab learners of English tend to understand the meaning of L2 body idiomatic expressions but are unable to use them in their own language production. The study suggests that both group A and group B students were far better at comprehending an idiom's meaning than learning to use them in their own language production. The performance of group A in producing and comprehending these idioms was much better than the performance of group B in producing and comprehending them. This may indicate that age and level of education (BA vs MA) may affect the linguistic proficiency of learners. However, such correlation needs further investigation.
إجراء تحليل تلوي شمولي للطلب والاعتذار في التعلم اللغوي للطلاب العرب في الدراسات العليا في الجامعات الماليزية
The speech Acts of Arab students have also been an interesting domain of research due to the translation of phrases by the students to the English language directly from the Arabic language. Currently, various researches have been conducted in this domain. The speech acts of requests are complaint, complement, compliment, greeting, invitation, refusal, request etc. The most commonly used among these requests and apologies which when compared to the rest of them holds a number of repetitions. This study undertakes a meta-analysis to examine the utilization of request and apology speech acts with respect to native Arab-speaking post-graduate students who communicate with their instructors in the English language. Previous studies were selected with respect to the apology and request speech acts. The studies reveal that the structural formation of the EFL Learners of the English language is like those of the native Arab speakers. It is vital for the EFL learners of Arab countries to understand the difference between standard cultural norms and practices that must be used in English-speaking social settings to avoid a pragmatic miscommunication or in other words failure of the same and hence emphasize linguistic pragmatics for the learners to get accustomed to a cultural environment of English-speaking ones which eventually envisions a communication with clarity and unambiguity.
Anxiety and Coping among Arab Students in Israel during the 2020 Coronavirus Lockdown
Many countries adopted a lockdown policy to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). A lockdown constitutes a unique, unpreceded, complex, and ongoing situation of stress. Groups distinguished by ethnicity, age, gender and occupation may experience a lockdown in different ways and at different levels. The current study focused on Arab students studying at Israeli colleges and universities. We administered the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and a questionnaire we developed to examine Ways of Coping During the Corona Lockdown (CDCL) to 202 male and female Arab students during the coronavirus lockdown in March and April 2020. Contrary to our expectations, our results showed that the students' anxiety decreased during the lockdown. Students used a combination of coping methods. Individual differences emerged in the students' level of state as well as trait anxiety and in the coping ways they used. Our results show that denial avoidance, wishful thinking and goal-oriented coping together with less use of thinking it over are associated with decreasing anxiety, while coping methods involving non-denial avoidance and thinking it over are associated with increasing anxiety. We discuss the theoretical and practical contributions of our study. More studies are needed to examine other ethnic, age, gender and occupational groups and use additional qualitative research paradigms.
Investigating Pronunciation Difficulties Encountered by Arab Students in Learning English Sounds
This study is a descriptive study that tries to investigate the pronunciation errors of the native Arabic speakers, who are attempting to learn English as a second language. This paper sheds the light on the factors that may cause problematic pronunciation errors. Factors leading to these problems are mother tongue effect, phonological effect, differences in orthography, and Stages of development. Studying these factors may help to predict some occurring problems concerning pronunciation errors. Therefore, this study tries to provide some useful pedagogical recommendations to overcome and prevent some of English pronunciation problems.
الصورة الذهنية للجامعات الأردنية لدى الطلبة العرب
هدفت الدراسة التعرف إلى الصورة الذهنية للجامعات الأردنية لدى الطلبة العرب، وتعد هذه الدراسة من الدراسات الوصفية التي استخدمت المنهج المسحي للحصول على نتائجها من خلال تطبيق أداة الاستبانة على عينة عمدية قوامها (366) طالبا وطالبة من الطلبة العرب الذين يدرسون في الجامعات الأردنية. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج أهمها: أن مستوى العوامل التي تسهم في تشكيل الصورة الذهنية للجامعات الأردنية جاءت مرتفعة من وجهة نظر الطلبة العرب، وأن الأمن والأمان الذي تتمتع به الجامعات الأردنية هو أحد أبرز العوامل التي تسهم في تشكيل الصورة الذهنية للجامعات الأردنية، بالإضافة إلى الإنجازات العلمية والأكاديمية التي حققتها الجامعات الأردنية وتنوع التخصصات الموجودة في الجامعات. كما تبين أن مصادر تكوين الصورة الذهنية عن الجامعات الأردنية جاءت متوسطة من وجهة نظر الطلبة العرب، وتبين أن موقع الجامعة الإلكتروني وصفحاتها على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي تعد من أبرز مصادر تكوين الصورة الذهنية عن الجامعات الأردنية لدى الطلبة العرب، بالإضافة إلى وجود تأثير متوسط للأصدقاء والأقارب اللذين تلقوا تعليمهم في الجامعات الأردنية، والأبحاث المنشورة لأعضاء هيئة التدريس على مواقع البحث العلمي ومحركاته.
