Dealing with some Lexical Problems in English-Arabic Translation Facing English Students and Offering Solution for them
This study analyzes the lexical problems encountered by English language students when translating from English into Arabic and proposes pedagogical and linguistic strategies to address them. The research stems from the observation that translation students frequently struggle to find accurate Arabic equivalents due to cross-linguistic interference, semantic complexity, and cultural differences between the two languages. Employing a descriptive-analytical method, the researcher examined a sample of student translations of literary and scientific texts, categorizing errors into major types: literal translation, misinterpretation of figurative meanings, inaccurate word choice, omission or addition, and failure to recognize contextual variations among synonyms. Results indicated that most lexical issues arise from limited awareness of contextual meaning and polysemy in English, as well as overreliance on bilingual dictionaries and automated translation tools. Additional problems stem from structural interference, where English syntax is transferred into Arabic, resulting in unnatural phrasing. The study suggests several solutions, including training students in contextual analysis, comparative lexical translation, and differentiation between dictionary and pragmatic meanings. It concludes that addressing these difficulties requires reforming translation curricula to include practical text-based exercises and error-analysis workshops, along with integrating digital tools that enhance lexical awareness and semantic precision. Scarcity of Illustrative Examples in Bilingual Dictionaries (English - Arabic)
This research paper sheds light on the problem of scarcity of illustrative examples in bilingual (English - Arabic) dictionaries compared with monolingual (English - English) dictionaries. Due to scarcity of illustrative examples, bilingual dictionaries proved to have been inefficient in rendering meanings of words. Arab users, having been misled by vague meanings and usages, are becoming less trustful of bilingual dictionaries, but highly opinionated of monolinguals. As a result, Users are tempted to shift to monolinguals, and this undoubtedly weakens their ties with their mother tongue. The researcher employs a questionnaire and a number of examples taken from both types of dictionaries to illustrate the difficulty of understanding meanings of words in isolation from their contextual examples

Towards the Making of a Contextual English-Arabic Dictionary
English-Arabic lexicography has received little attention in the literature. It is a fact that most of general-purpose English-Arabic dictionaries are products of single authors; consequently, they suffer from some weaknesses. They are based on a sense-enumeration technique, which assumes that a multi-sense word has a fixed set of meanings, which makes it impossible for such types of dictionaries to account for meanings of a word in novel contexts. Moreover, most of these dictionaries provide decontextualized equivalents to the different senses of their lexical entries; therefore, translators, learners of English as a second/foreign language, and teachers consulting English-Arabic sense enumerative dictionaries find difficulties in choosing suitable equivalents due to the absence of contextual clues. Thus, this paper aims at discussing weaknesses of English-Arabic dictionaries and proposing a way of making a contextual English-Arabic dictionary. The paper focuses on two main issues: lexical coverage and meanings in contexts. The proposed dictionary suggests making use of information technology, as it is unimaginable, especially with this worldwide desire for digitization, to compile a dictionary without resorting to available sources of IT. The suggested dictionary could be made by eclectic compilation of lexical entries from the specialized dictionaries of the Academy of the Arabic Language in Cairo, in addition to some English-English corpus-based dictionaries, and some other English-Arabic sources. Moreover, two major corpora can be used to provide necessary contextual information: The British National Corpus (BNC) and the Coronavirus Corpus. To avoid limitations of folio editions, the suggested dictionary is an electronic one.

نحو معجم محوسب ثنائي اللغة للتعبيرات الاصطلاحية \عربي - إنجليزي\
يهدف هذا البحث إلى اقتراح تصميم معجم محوسب ثنائي اللغة يختص بالتعبيرات الاصطلاحية الفصيحة في اللغة العربية وترجمتها إلى اللغة الإنجليزية، إذ إن هذه التعبيرات الاصطلاحية تعد معضلة عند المترجمين في عملية الترجمة سواء أكانت ترجمة المتخصصين أم الترجمة الآلية ببرامجها الكثيرة المبثوثة على شبكة المعلومات العالمية أو عند تعليم العربية للطلبة الناطقين بغيرها وتعلمهما. وأفضت طبيعة الموضوع أن يقسم البحث إلى مقدمة وإطار نظري وإطار تطبيقي، ستختص المقدمة بالحديث عن أهمية الدراسة وأهدافها ومحدداتها ومصطلحاتها والدراسات السابقة التي اختصت بالموضوع، وسيركز الإطار النظري على المعاجم المتخصصة، والتعبيرات الاصطلاحية، وخطوات إعداد المعجم المحوسب للتعبيرات الاصطلاحية، وسيتناول الإطار التطبيقي شاشات البرنامج المقترحة وشرحها ومقتطفات منها. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى أن التعبيرات الاصطلاحية تشكل عقبة سواء على المترجمين أم الترجمة الآلية أم الطلبة الناطقين بغير العربية، وأن تخطي هذه العقبة لا يكمن إلا في بناء معجم محوسب ثنائي اللغة يختص بالتعبيرات الاصطلاحية الفصيحة في اللغة العربية ومكافئاتها باللغة الإنجليزية سواء أكان برنامجا مستقلا بحد ذاته أم برنامجا مكمل يربط مع برامج الترجمة الآلية من خلال قاعدة بياناته.
