Le Problème du Calque Phonétique dans la Traduction des Anthroponymes Antiques

À travers cet article, nous avons évoqué les raisons qui poussent le traducteur à choisir le calque phonétique en traduisant l'anthroponyme antique. En effet, ce problème est issu d'un phénomène lexicologique qui considère le nom propre comme signifiant et lui ôte toute possibilité d'avoir une fonction autre que la désignation d'un individu précis, dans un cadre spatio-temporel déterminé. Notre démarche consiste à démontrer l'antithèse du phénomène en question, en allant de l'anthroponyme \"signifiant\", à l'anthroponyme \"signifié\". Le rôle du nom propre antique dans cet article est de servir d'exemple pour montrer les différentes connotations qu'un nom propre peut avoir, vu les caractéristiques qu'il a, comme la possibilité d'être réel ou mythologique. Enfin, on présente au traducteur une alternative du calque phonétique. Autrement dit, une traduction qui prend en considération la valeur sémantique de l'anthroponyme.

Translation Strategies of Book Titles from English into Arabic and Vice Versa

This study aimed to explore the strategies for translating book titles from English into Arabic and vice versa. To achieve the goal of the study, one hundred English book titles and one hundred Arabic book titles were collected and compared to their translations. The collected data were analyzed and investigated. The results revealed that the translators applied several strategies for translating book titles from English into Arabic and vice versa. In titles translated from Arabic to English, translators applied seven strategies: literal translation, translation plus transliteration, translation plus addition, translation plus modifications, transliteration alone, transliteration plus addition and adaptation. However,, in the titles translated from English to Arabic, translators applied eight strategies; seven of them were the same as in the translation of titles from Arabic into English. The strategy that differed is keeping the original title. The analysis also indicates that the highest percentage goes for the literal translation strategy from Arabic book titles to English (62%) and (51%) from English book titles to Arabic. The percentages of the other strategies ranged between 1% to 18%.

Difficulties that Yemeni Students of English Encounter in Translating Scientific Texts from English into Arabic

The aim of this study is to investigate the difficulties confronted by Yemeni students in translating scientific texts from English into Arabic. The result showed that the majority of students found it hard to get the equivalent of the scientific terms that were used in the test. It revealed that a great number of students used a method of neologisms intend at using pure Arabic vocabularies, while others preferred another methods which did not serve the Arabic language such as transcription; so they ended up with incorrect translation. The analysis also emphasized that students' mistakes were due to their lack of knowledge of appropriate methods they to be used to translate scientific texts and to their unfamiliarity with various scientific terms.
