Despărţirea de un prieten al Bucovinei: Dan Mănucă 1
This text was written in memoriam Dan Manuca who was a professor at the Faculty of Letters, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi, and the director of “A. Philippide” Institute of Romanian Philology – the Iasi Branch of the Romanian Academy, between 1900 and 2012. His father, Mihai Manuca, an orthodox priest and a scholar, was deeply concerned with the education of his son who was taught French, German and English since childhood. The opportunity of learning foreign languages offered him a broad view of the West European culture. Dan Manuca was interested in studying M. Eminescu’s activity, as well as the activity of Junimea’s representatives and the work of Mathilde Kugler-Poni; he also collected information about professors Josef and Constantin Meissner from Bukovina, and focused generally on the German literature written in Bukovina. He was one of the authors and coordinators of Dicţionarul literaturii române de la origini până la 1900 [‘The Dictionary of the Romanian Literature from Its Origins to 1900’] and a collaborator to Dicţionarul general al literaturii române [The General Dictionary of the Romanian Literature]. He wrote monographs about M. Sadoveanu, L. Rebreanu, I. Al. Brătescu-Voineşti. Dan Manuca’s interest in the connections between the Romanian and the German literatures is emphasized by his activity of editing Iacob Negruzzi’s diary written when Negruzzi was a student in Berlin, as well as the memoirs of Constantin Sporea, a teacher of German; the same interest is revealed by his many articles about Mite Kremnitz and the German influences used by M. Eminescu.
Corectarea greșelilor și oferirea de feedback în predarea online a limbii române ca limbă străină
This paper analyses how written corrective feedback was provided during the online teaching of Romanian as a foreign language at an Italian university in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. The retrospective analysis focuses on the most common types of mistakes identified in the students' homework and on the strategies applied by the author as the lecturer for Romanian language in the revision of the homework. The first part of the research aimed to identify and classify the errors appearing in the students' texts, investigating the possible causes of the errors. The findings revealed that grammar errors were made more frequently by the students at beginner level, while lexical errors were made by students at an intermediate or advanced level of knowledge. Results also show that the teacher tended to use various types of corrective feedback, depending on the error type that was identified. The teacher's feedback took different forms, ranging from simple error correction to extended comments and the proposal of alternative solutions. Moreover, the corrective feedback was offered directly for beginner students, while the corrections tended to be hedged when addressing advanced students, in order to avoid their discouragement. The students found the teacher's feedback useful and even used the homework as a means to signal their difficulties with learning and ask for help. These results contradict previous research claiming that effective feedback involved direct indications using the imperative.
ROMANIAN RETURNEE DOCTORS – A STUDY ON THE REASONS AND MOTIVATIONS OF THE RETURN
THE MIGRATION OF PEOPLE FROM ROMANIA IN THE POST-COMMUNIST PERIOD IS A TOPIC OF EXHAUSTIVE RESEARCH IN THE SPECIALIZED LITERATURE. NEVERTHELESS, RE-MIGRATION IS A TOPIC THAT IS RARELY TOUCHED UPON. THIS RESEARCH FOCUSES ON THE PHENOMENON OF REMIGRATION OF HIGHLY QUALIFIED ROMANIAN CITIZENS, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY OF DOCTORS. A PRIVILEGED SPACE IN THE RESEARCH IS GIVEN TO THE MEDICAL SYSTEM AND PUBLIC HEALTH, WHICH ARE THREATENED BY THE PHENOMENON OF MIGRATION OF DOCTORS. IN THE CONTEXT OF BRAIN DRAIN, DOCTORS HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE SPECIALIZED LITERATURE AS A SEPARATE CATEGORY, GIVEN THE PROFOUND IMPACT THEIR MIGRATION HAS ON THE NATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM AND INDIRECTLY ON THE HEALTH AND THE PHYSICAL WELLBEING OF THE ENTIRE POPULATION. BASED ON A GROUNDED THEORY METHODOLOGY, INCLUDING SEMI-STRUCTURED AND OPENENDED INTERVIEWS WITH RE-MIGRATED DOCTORS, MY RESEARCH EXPLAINS THE MECHANISMS THAT DRIVE MIGRATION, AS WELL AS REMIGRATION OF DOCTORS. AS MY RESEARCH SHOWS, THE REASONS BEHIND DOCTORS’ DECISION TO LEAVE LESS DEVELOPED COUNTRIES (LIKE ROMANIA) FOR A FRESH START IN DEVELOPED COUNTRIES, RANGE FROM POOR WORKING CONDITIONS, POOR PAY AND SOCIO-POLITICAL INSTABILITY. NEVERTHELESS, ONCE ABROAD DOCTORS’ FEEL FRUSTRATED BY “REMAINING THE ROMANIAN DOCTOR”, FEELING THAT THEY CANNOT COMPLETELY FLOURISH IN THEIR NEW INSTITUTIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL CONTEXT, HENCE THE POTENTIAL FOR STIMULATING RE-MIGRATION. I CONCLUDE THAT RESTORING PUBLIC HEALTH SECURITY CAN BE DONE BY STIMULATING REMIGRATION AND BY OFFERING SUPPORT SERVICES TO RETURNING DOCTORS.
