First Record of Aff. Plesiosuchus sp. : Biometry, Profile of Locomotion, and Paleobiological Consequences
by
Stéphane, Hua
in
Biometry
2024
This is the first record of the biggest Metriorhynchidae, aff. Plesiosuchus sp. in France. The remains consist of a partial vertebral column consisting of 11 vertebrae and an ischium fragment. A new method is proposed to evaluate the individual’s size, which is estimated at 6.5 m. This method, unlike previous approaches, is based only on vertebrae and yields results that are congruent with those based on cranial remains. The state of preservation has allowed us to test the animal’s ‘profile of locomotion’ to better interpret how it moved. Concerning other metriorhynchids, the record of Dakosaurus in France based only on teeth must be reassessed, and the genus Torvoneustes, if valid, has to be distinguished from Plesiosuchus.

The Origins of Forensic Anthropology in the United States
2024
Traditional histories of forensic anthropology focus on key figures, events, and/or publications within a larger narrative of disciplinary formation and expansion. These histories typically highlight individuals such as Thomas Dwight or institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. This project represents an interdisciplinary collaboration with the goal of shedding new light onto the origins of forensic anthropology in the United States. By pulling from a number of published scholarly sources, as well as some unpublished correspondence, this project expands upon the more established historical events concerning the history of forensic anthropology. Here we argue that the origins of contemporary forensic anthropology not only trace back to the work of Wilton Krogman but that Krogman's forensic anthropology must be understood through the life and work of his mentor, T. Wingate Todd, as well as the Hamann-Todd Collection, early efforts toward personal identification of human skeletal remains, and a complex amalgamation of US and UK influences that Krogman was exposed to through Todd's mentorship efforts.

Creating Belonging by Diversifying Repertoire in Canadian Wind Band/Diversifer le répertoire pour favoriser le sentiment d'appartenance au sein des orchestres d'harmonie canadiens
by
Challacombe, Ren
in
Biometry
2023
Wind band in Canada has been under scrutiny due to a lack of diversity in programming practices. Shallow solutions such as diversity quotas are ineffective and risk tokenization. A pedagogical reckoning hinging on empathy, positionality, and contextualization is necessary for band directors who wish to create an environment of belonging and identity recognition in their ensembles. This pedagogical revolution requires personal reflection, risk taking, and vulnerability to foster a diverse, identity-rich future for wind band.

Biometry
2021
