Two Husker pitchers make most of chances
2000
\"I think it's real important for these guys,\" Husker pitching coach Rob Childress said of getting some mid-week innings for the first time this season. \"You look down our staff, we've only got four guys that have thrown more than 10 innings on the year, so getting these guys some work and letting them compete is extremely important. I hate for them to have to throw a bullpen on Tuesday and expect them to go be successful on the weekend.\" \"His stuff's the best we got. It's just command (that is the problem),\" Childress said. \"In the bullpens he's fine, it's just being out there between the lines and doing it when it counts. And he was sharp today.\" \"I had pretty good command, better than I thought it would be, but I've still got a ways to go,\" he said. \"Conditioning-wise, I think I'm all right, but my arm has got to build back up a little bit.\"

I want to be Irish No 1, Kilcoyne warns Healy
2013
\"The message should probably go to Gats ([Warren Gatland]) that if he is looking for someone to play on top of the ground in Australia later on in the year, he should look really closely at the two Irish looseheads,\" said [Rob Penney]. \"[DAVE KILCOYNE]'s scrummaging is fine and with a little more maturity and a little more age, he is going to be class. \"Every professional rugby player wants to be playing for their country and you're in the wrong game if that's not your overall goal,\" said Kilcoyne. \"The next step for me is to try and make the starting team, or at least force the coaches into having to make a decision. I just want to keep pushing forward, keep improving.\" \"Across the board it's ironic, I guess with regard to three looseheads coming along at the one time, but we're happy with what we have in our mix of props,\" added [Les Kiss]. \"Steve Archer had an injury recently but Declan Fitzpatrick has just got back on his feet. When he was with us the last time he impressed us.\"

Football: Barcalys Premier League: Agbonlahor floors Hammers hopes
2011
Villa's Ashley Young played his part, too, dawdling as the visiting defence rushed out after half-clearing a Mark Noble corner and thereby leaving Robbie Keane onside to collect Thomas Hitzlsperger's header over the top. The Irishman swivelled sharply and slammed the ball into the net from close range. But that was the end of West Ham's glory. Hope just about lingers. Villa dominated after that as [Darren Bent] and Ashley Young excelled and the effect of [Scott Parker]'s absence became apparent on West Ham, who looked irreparably fragmented. \"It was a very crucial match and the players knew it and they were a little bit nervous, especially without Parker,\" said Avram Grant, who knows that, with Parker's ankle injury possibly sidelining him for another two weeks, his team cannot afford to carry on like this. \"We need to deal with this situation,\" the West Ham manager said. \"I told the players before the game that this could be a turning point and we couldn't miss it,\" said Gerard Houllier, the much-maligned manager whose own position may not yet be quite as comfortable as that of his team, who now sit ninth. \"When you're in danger you can't have egos in the team and you can't have grudges. You've got to be man enough to work for each other. I thought we did that. The season is going into the home straight and we are well-placed.\"

Football: Adams vows to lift Foxes straight back ; CHARLTON 2 LEICESTER 2
2004
DISAPPOINTED Leices-ter City boss Micky Adams immediately set his sights on emulating Gary Megson at Albion by leading the Foxes to an instant return to the Premiership. Adams will be boosted by the fact that Megsonhasdone exactly that with Albion and that Alan Curbishley also achieved the same feat at [CHARLTON]. Leicester were pinned back and it was no real surprise when Jonathan Fortune headed home from a corner to bring them level. Charlton continued to dominate and it looked all over for Leicester when [Rob Styles] awarded the controversial penalty coolly tucked away by Paolo Di Canio.

Campbell and Bent leave Burnley in the soup
2010
Fraizer Campbell and Darren Bent's goals gave [Burnley] an insurmountable task but Steven Thompson's late effort showed [Brian Laws]'s club will not go back to the Championship without a fight after a solitary season in the top division. Second-bottom Burnley, buoyed by last week's 4-1 win at Hull, looked fragile at the back as their defenders struggled to get to grips with Kenwyne Jones and Darren Bent. Brian Jensen brilliantly denied John Mensah and Jones rattled a post before Burnely resistance was ended as Laws's side - without David Nugent due to hamstring trouble - were pushed towards the brink in the 25th minute. He also had words of comfort for fellow Wallsend Boys' Club graduate Laws: \"For anyone who is manager of Burnley it is very difficult in the best league in the world and they did well to get in it after finishing sixth in the Championship last year. It was unbelievable but it was always going to be difficult to sustain.\"
