Cost of follow-up colon cancer tests an issue: Hospital fees for doctor office visits common
Q: A stool-based DNA test to screen for colon cancer is readily paid for by health plans, including Medicare. But if I have a positive Cologuard test result, I'd have to pay several hundred dollars for a diagnostic colonoscopy. Doesn't this discourage people from getting screened for colon cancer? The best way to protect yourself from unexpected facility fees is to get details from the physician's office before you visit, said Richard Gundling, senior vice president at the Healthcare Financial Management Association, a group for professionals in health care finance. That way, you can make an educated decision about whether to proceed before you get a surprise bill. \"The patient should always ask, 'What is my out-of-pocket cost for this visit?' \" Q: My husband's family physician is a member of MDVIP, one of many \"concierge\" practices in which a doctor or group of doctors generally charge an annual fee for faster appointments, more access to the doctor, more time with him during appointments and preventive services during the annual wellness visit that aren't included in a regular Medicare annual wellness visit. Is the annual fee of $1,650 tax deductible?

City council urged to move family from run-down and rat-infested section of estate
Ms Caroline Power, who has lived at her home in O'Malley Park, Southill, for the past 16 years, is one of only two remaining tenants still living on her road. Some 24 neighbouring families have moved out of the area in recent years depriving the neighbourhood of any sense of community or heart and soul. A community activist, Mr Noel Hannan, has criticised the council's housing department for failing to rehouse the Powers. \"It's an absolute disgrace that people should have to live in these conditions in 2004. I am calling on Limerick City Council to demolish all the derelict houses in this part of O'Malley Park and to rehouse the two remaining families in homes of their choice,\" said Mr Hannan. \"Caroline Power has been listed for transfer and we are currently looking for alternative housing arrangements within the O'Malley Park area,\" the official said.
Powers 3 back after opening-round 75 Bobcat paired with defending girls champ
\"I had a few too many putts, and that's what killed me,\" said [Caroline Powers], who finished eighth in the state as a freshman. \"[White's] a lot of fun to play with because it's nice to have somebody directly against you who's having a better round. That challenges you. I wanted to shoot [a 72] and it was kind of close until I had a couple three-putts.\" \"I know I could have played better but it's a definite improvement over last year,\" said [Emily Gedert], who competed here last year along with [Heather Jorgensen] and Sterling. \"We just want to play our game and finish the best we can.\" \"We felt if we finished in the middle of the pack that we'd be doing well,\" coach Bill Perry said. \"I don't expect the conditions to change too much [today] and I think the kids will have a better understanding of how to play through them. I was hoping for a little better outcome. I'd expect a better finish tomorrow.\"

Powers to be focused; BG senior takes her final shot at state crown
\"I think being on the boys team has helped me because playing on the longer tees is a constant challenge and it makes you have to get better,\" [Caroline Powers] said. \"And my teammates have all been nice to me so it's been good.\" \"She's mentally tough,\" the BG coach said. \"Not much really bothers her. When she hits a bad shot it doesn't bother her and you can never tell by her expression whether she's having a good day or bad day when she's on the course. She doesn't show much emotion and she just keeps plugging away.\" \"There are a lot of good girls who play at state and it's a little more intense atmosphere because the stakes are higher,\" Powers said. \"But really, it's just another tournament and you have to just go out and play. It's all about keeping the right frame of mind.
