by
Rod ord Hagwood

Clancy, Dan
2013
\"I was in Berlin and I was in the gay section and there was this small plaque,\" [Dan Clancy] says from his home in Fort Lauderdale. \"It said, 'For the gays and lesbians who died under the Nazi regime, beaten to death and never again mentioned.' And I read that and realized why I had written the play 10 years after I had written the play.\" \"Which is very unusual,\" he explains. \"Usually I know the seed of where the play comes from. I don't know about this though; it just came. I don't know where the idea came from, but I don't question it.\" The retired teacher/administrator went on to write musicals (\"108 Waverly\") and plays (\"Volunteer Man,\" \"Proposition 8\") and has an acting role in the indie-film \"L'Absinthe\" making the film festival rounds.

Absolut Gay Theatre Festival Dublin: The Time Keepers
by
Crawley, Peter
in
Clancy, Dan
2010
There is a deeply moving and illuminating Holocaust drama about friendship, love, sacrifice and sexual identity, which counts as an important work in what we might call the gay theatre repertoire. That play is Martin Sherman'sBent, from 1979, a substantial drama that doesn't feature in this year's Absolut Gay Theatre Festival Dublin, nor in the concurrent International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. (Not since the acrimonious split between The People's Front of Judea and The Judean People's Front in Monty Python's The Life of Brianhas there been a separation as confusing.) Written by American playwright Dan Clancy and here presented in a long-touring, trimmed down production from Israel's Ocean of Sugar Company, 2001's The Time Keeperscan't help but invite comparisons with Bent.

TRAINING KEY TO MANUFACTURING HEALTH
by
Clancy, Dan
in
Clancy, Dan
2007
A recent report by Grant Thornton documented this clear-cut challenge for Wisconsin manufacturers. In a survey of Wisconsin employers, 43 percent offered fewer than eight hours of annual training per employee. In a recent newspaper article, Mike Altschaefl, a Grant Thornton- Wisconsin managing partner said, \"Wisconsin was one of the lowest (states) in expectations to provide at least eight hours of training at the manufacturing level.\" Wisconsin's Technical Colleges' employer advisory committees see the same trend here. Employers are looking to conduct more training of incumbent workers, especially in manufacturing. While these are encouraging signs, Wisconsin needs to do more to ensure employees' skills remain a priority.

Truman & Tommy: Here's what's in the spotlight on South Florida stages this week: the week's best bets
2016
Outre Theatre Company is staging \"Tommy,\" a rock opera by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff based on the Who's 1969 album of the same title, with hits such as \"Pinball Wizard,\" \"The Acid Queen\" and \"See Me, Feel Me.\" Skye Whitcomb, Outre's artistic director and the director of this show, says in a press release: \"Most of us are familiar with at least the bare-bones story of 'Tommy,' but over the years many of us have forgotten the power of Tommy's redemption. Here is a young man who experiences the absolute highest and lowest points that a human being can experience, and in the end, all he wants is to connect with another person. All he wants is for you to see him. This is something, I think, that so many of us can relate to on a personal, visceral level.\"
