CONGRATULATIONS ... YOU JUST LET GO A KILLER
\"I think it stunk,\" said Ann McCormack, 90, who long ago gave up any hope of finding her daughter Kathleen Durst alive. \"It's another O.J. case. Anybody could kill someone and claim it was self- defense. Money talks.\" \"What I think is what Kathie used to say about Bobby: that he always gets away with things,\" Gilberte Najamy, 51, Kathleen Durst's close friend, told the Daily News after hearing the verdict. \"To know Bob Durst is to expect the unexpected.\"

COAST-TO-COAST PROBE OF DURST N.Y., L.A. COPS HEAD TO TEX., ; LOOKING TO LINK HIM TO 3 KILLINGS
Westchester County investigators are to meet with Galveston police Tuesday. The following day, Los Angeles cops will visit Galveston to probe the slaying of Durst's longtime friend, author Susan Berman. Galveston police arrested Durst on Tuesday, more than a week after a fisherman found Morris Black's torso floating in a local bay. [Edward Benevidez] said Durst refused to talk to police before contacting a lawyer and posting bail. Galveston Police Lt. Mike Putnal said it was luck that the torso was found. It was in a remote area, and probably would have sunk in another day. Without the torso, evidence later recovered in Durst's garbage would have been long gone, he said.

Landlord Klaus Dillmann said Durst and Black were often at odds over loud noises and frequently taunted each other. It's not clear why Durst, who apparently has homes in northern California, Connecticut and Manhattan, was living in a one-room efficiency in Galveston. The Durst family stated yesterday that the Durst Organization and family members had no contact with Durst immediately before or following his arrest. \"We were made aware of his arrest by the media,\" a spokesman said. \"Mr. Durst has not been involved with the Durst Organization for more than eight years.\"

Stranger than fiction
2015
As the viewer is to realise in the first episode, Durst's tale doesn't begin and end with his wife's disappearance. Firstly, he's no Joe Soap. Durst is heir to a massive New York real estate fortune worth more than $4bn, with a personal fortune estimated in the millions. Estranged from most of his family, we learn at the beginning of the first episode that his brother is so afraid [Robert Durst] will try to kill him, he has hired a bodyguard to protect him -- odd when we get a first impression of Durst as a slight, almost meek man. once the interview with Durst begins, he's a revelation. He's intelligent, articulate, witty and -- unbelievably -- almost likeable. Despite the plethora of evidence against him, it's possible at times to believe he's telling the truth about his extraordinary life and the viewer is inexplicably drawn in. The balance of Durst's version of events and that of his detractors is the friction that keeps you watching, amazed at how truth really can be relative to some. Since the show aired in the US, another chapter has been added to the incredible story, mainly due to the fact that Durst is a real man, who's been living among us relatively in the shadows until now. Many questioned why on earth he'd want to draw attention to himself and the crimes many believe he committed by appearing on the show, and that's a valid point. One thing is for sure though -- Durst's life makes for compelling TV, and we defy you not to be hooked.

Disappearance Under Scrutiny After 18 Years
Mrs. Durst's relatives have long said they believe Mr. Durst knew more about the circumstances of his wife's disappearance than he said. They formally made the allegation in a 1983 court proceeding in which Mrs. Durst's mother asked a Surrogate Court judge to appoint her the temporary administrator of her daughter's estate. Mr. Durst's lawyers at the time described the allegation as unfounded. Yesterday, in response to inquiries, Mr. Durst's brother, [Douglas], issued a statement denying that his brother played any part in Mrs. Durst's disappearance. According to accounts given at the time, Mrs. Durst had attended a dinner party at the home of Ms. [Gilberta Najamy], a friend from college, in Newtown, Conn., on Sunday, Jan. 31, 1982, leaving in the evening to drive her maroon Mercedes home to the Durst weekend retreat in South Salem.
