2017 Edelman Trust Barometer Reveals Global Implosion of Trust
2017
\"The implications of the global trust crisis are deep and wide-ranging,\" said Richard Edelman, president and CEO of Edelman. \"It began with the Great Recession of 2008, but like the second and third waves of a tsunami, globalization and technological change have further weakened people's trust in global institutions. The consequence is virulent populism and nationalism as the mass population has taken control away from the elites.\" \"Business is the last retaining wall for trust,\" said Kathryn Beiser, global chair of Edelman's Corporate practice. \"Its leaders must step up on the issues that matter for society. It has done a masterful job of illustrating the benefits of innovation but has done little to discuss the impact those advances will have on people's jobs. Business must also focus on paying employees fairly, while providing better benefits and job training.\" Edelman is a leading global communications marketing firm that partners with many of the world's largest and emerging businesses and organizations, helping them evolve, promote and protect their brands and reputations. Edelman was awarded the Grand Prix Cannes Lion for PR in 2014; six Cannes Lions in 2015; and the Grand Prix in the Titanium category in 2016. The firm was named \"2016 Global Agency of the Year\" by the Holmes Report, and one of Advertising Age's \"Agencies to Watch\" in 2014. In 2015, Edelman was among Glassdoor's \"Best Places to Work\" for the fourth time. Edelman owns specialty firms Edelman Intelligence (research) and United Entertainment Group (entertainment, sports, experiential), a joint venture with United Talent Agency. Local Leaders Join Edelman CEO to Discuss the Role of Trust in Innovation
2015
This year's Barometer revealed an alarming evaporation of trust across all institutions - government, business, media and NGOs - reaching the lows of the \"Great Recession\" in 2009. Notably, the low levels of trust have impacted innovation by hindering acceptance of technological advancements. \"The pace of change has never been faster and innovation has become an even greater imperative for business success,\" said Richard Edelman, president and CEO, Edelman. \"Seattle is a strong and vibrant center of change,\" said Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. \"Our local government must be as innovative as the community we serve. This means using technology to measure in real-time how well we're delivering services to make government more efficient and transparent.\" \"Innovation should be a trust accelerator, but today it is not,\" Edelman said while closing the panel. \"To invent is no longer enough. There must be a new compact between company and individual, where companies demonstrate that innovations are safe based on independent research, provide both societal and personal benefit and are committed to the protection of customer data.\"

Trust Plunges in the United States While Resilient Across the Globe
2011
The Barometer finds a flight to credentialed spokespersons, with academics and technical experts as most credible and a \"person like me\" and regular employees least credible. CEOs now rank among the top credible spokespeople globally - a striking rise from two years ago when they were in the bottom two. Fifty percent say CEOs are credible spokespeople about a company, a 19-point increase over 2009. By contrast, a \"person like me,\" dropped four points globally since 2009, falling from the top three - replacing CEOs in the bottom two. In the U.S., a \"person like me\" declined precipitously since 2006 (68 percent to 31 percent) among 35-64 year olds. [Richard Edelman] is the world's largest independent public relations firm, with wholly-owned offices in 53 cities and 3,700 employees worldwide. Edelman was named Advertising Age's top-ranked PR firm of the decade and one of its \"2010 A-List Agencies\" and \"2010 Best Places to Work;\" European Excellence Awards' \"2010 Agency of the Year;\" PRWeek's \"2009 Agency of the Year;\" Holmes Report's \"Agency of the Decade\" and \"2009 Asia Pacific Consultancy of the Year;\" and among Glassdoor's top five \"2011 Best Places to Work.\" Edelman owns specialty firms Blue (advertising), StrategyOne (research), Ruth (integrated marketing), DJE Science (medical education/publishing and science communications), and MATTER (sports, sponsorship, and entertainment). Business Loses Mandate to Lead; Public Calls for Greater Government Regulation Around World
2009
\"It has been a catastrophic year for business, well beyond the evident destruction in shareholder value and need for emergency government funding,\" said Richard Edelman, president and CEO, Edelman. \"Our survey confirms that it's going to be harder to rebuild our economies because no institution has captured the trust that business has lost -- trust is not a zero-sum game. Business must recast its role in society and move beyond simply generating ROI to its shareholders. It must partner with government and other institutions to assume societal responsibilities.\" The Edelman Trust Barometers explores trust in four institutions: business, government, media, and NGOs. Edelman is the world's largest independent public relations firm, with 3,200 employees in 53 offices worldwide. Edelman was named \"Large Agency of the Year\" in 2008 by PRWeek and a top-10 firm in the Advertising Age \"2007 Agency A-List,\" the first and only PR firm to receive this recognition. CEO Richard Edelman was honored as \"2007 Agency Executive of the Year by both Advertising Age and PRWeek. PRWeek also named Edelman \"Large Agency of the Year\" in 2006 and awarded the firm its' \"Editor's Choice\" distinction. For more information, visit http://www.edelman.com/trust/2009/.

Russia still last in government trust rating, survey shows
2013
\"We're clearly experiencing a crisis in leadership,\" the company's president and chief executive, Richard Edelman, said in a statement. He recommended that business leaders and governmental officials become more engaged into dialogue with the general public, as well as activists and experts. Russia maintained last place in Edelman's ranking of the level of public trust in government and non-government organizations, business and media in 26 countries. The share of Russian respondents showing some degree of confidence in all four kinds of institutions reached 36 per cent this year, a slight increase from 32 per cent in 2012 but still significantly below the global average of 57 per cent. Other reasons included \"wrong incentives\" driving business decisions and government policies; leaders' incompetence; a lack of regulation and control; and transparency issues.
