Ellis Brown; retired judge was active volunteer

Returning to law after the war, Mr. Brown founded a successful firm on State Street in Boston. His judicial career began in 1967, when he was appointed special justice for Massachusetts, serving in courts throughout the state. He was appointed as first presiding judge of the Wrentham District Court in 1972, retiring in 1983. Mr. Brown's passion for justice extended beyond the courtroom. His record of civic engagement included membership in St. Alban's Lodge of A.F. and A.M., the mounted patrol of the Aleppo Shrine Temple Units and the Foxboro Lions Club.

F. Henry Ellis Jr., pioneer in cardiovascular surgery

During a firefight at the end of January 1968, when North Vietnamese forces launched the Tet Offensive, Dr. Ellis wrote in his journal that he and two other US doctors managed to get to the hospital \"by a circuitous back way, and immediately we were confronted with hordes of casualties of all sorts, lining the entranceways, the halls, and the operating room area itself.\" \"An expert on esophageal diseases and surgery, Dr. Ellis published seminal work in basic and clinical research on reflux esophagitis, achalasia, and esophageal cancer,\" Harvard Medical School said in a news release this month announcing that the school's flag was flying at half-staff in tribute to Dr. Ellis.

African drum workshop on

This is a first in a series of organ concerts at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral in 2009 featuring the 30 stop 3 manual and pedal organ containing historic pipework from the 1860s. ALSO this Sunday, from 4 to 7pm, the Taranaki Jazz Club will meet in the club at Strandon and feature popular local jazz combo On the Corner with a programme of jazz standards. BEGINNING at 5pm on Sunday, St Mary's Diocesan School for Girls of Stratford will perform at a choir evening workshop in St Mary's Cathedral, New Plymouth. The public is welcome to attend. NEXT Saturday, March 28, The Taranaki Multi- Ethnic Council is presenting its 15th Multi-Ethnic Extravaganza in New Plymouth. The main Extravaganza is at Yarrow Stadium immediately following the parade. Entry is by Gold Coin Donation at the gates. You can enjoy a mouthwatering array of ethnic foods, heaps of local and out of town Arts and Craft Stalls with treats for the kids, beautiful hand-made clothes and furniture from international artists. There will be a bouncy castle and fun rides and a programme of entertainers lined up from 11.30am to 3.30pm on the main stage. Some of the performers this year are Dreadrock, Nuiean Cultural Group, V4U - Bollywood and a Traditional Indian Dance Group, a Maori Cultural Group and Belly Dancers. TAKE a dash of Latin rhythms, mix with a passionate splash of Cuban history and ignite with some of the hottest dancers this side of Havana and you have a new show that's sure to be a tempting cocktail of all things Cuban. It's happening at The TSB Showplace from 8pm on April 23 as part of a national tour. Mr. Robinson was a member of the downtown firm Ritter, Robinson, McCready, and James for 40 years. Mr. Robinson greatly enjoyed the state's mountainous outdoors and took up hiking, [Nancy Robinson] said. Surviving are his wife, Mary Robinson; daughters, [Ellis M.M.] Robinson, Nancy Robinson, and Susan Baldwin; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
