NSW: Workers will not be forced on to AWAs: CBA
\"Staff on an AWA get a higher salary but they also choose not to have overtime or rostered days or some of the other award-based allowances, so they're getting remuneration in place of some of the allowances they previously received.\" \"Now that the High Court judgment is down all companies know that they have the certainty to introduce AWAs and big business is starting to move,\" Mr [Greg Combet] said. \"We need to have an award that's there that provides flexibility, but the bank just doesn't go around and move staff willy nilly.\"

Private A&E departments: what's the deal?
[Brian Fitzgerald] says it is \"rare\" that a patient who needs a bed would not get one that day, while a Blackrock Clinic spokesman says there would be beds available \"most of the time\". Laya Health says that for patients admitted to a private A&E, more than 90 per cent of its schemes offer some level of cover for private hospitals. With Aviva, its Level 2 and above plans typically provide a level of cover towards private hospital care. For example, the popular Aviva Select Plus Plan, which costs 854, has cover for a private room in selected private hospitals at the Beacon Hospital subject to 150 excess per claim. The insurer's top Level 5 plan, Optimise Platinum, which has an annual cost of 5,687, has full cover for a private room in a private or high-tech hospital. If you don't have insurance, you can opt to be admitted on a \"self-pay\" basis. At the Beacon for example, typical room charges start at 800 a night, and the hospital is planning a significant self-pay campaign. Fitzgerald estimates about 10 per cent of its patients now either pay for themselves, or cover the excess on a health insurance policy.

Fitzgerald is a former CEO of St James's Hospital and sits on the board of the New Children's Hospital so has dealt with the waiting list problem from both sides of the healthcare fence. \"Throughout my working life there have always been waiting lists and there always have been waiting list 'initiatives' to make sure targets are met. \"The private sector can work with public hospitals to ensure these targets are met in a coherent fashion,\" he claimed.

SBC Senior Open tries to remain a fixture
The Legends was an original. Twenty-four years after its debut at Onion Creek Country Club in Austin, Tex., it still is. The SBC Senior Open was added to the Senior PGA Tour schedule 11 years later at Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland. It arrived in the Chicago area in 1991--at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora--and has been a mid- July fixture here ever since. [Brian Fitzgerald]'s job attracting fans would be easier if more of the tour's more well-known performers hadn't decided they had better things to do this weekend. Those names include Fuzzy Zoeller (\"Family plans,\" Fitzgerald said), Tom Kite (\"I don't know why\"), Tom Watson (British Open), Bruce Lietzke (\"fishing with former PGA Tour player Bill Rogers\"), Don Pooley (\"He withdrew before the Senior Open. I have no idea why.\"), Allen Doyle (\"Worn out.\"), Lanny Wadkins (replacing Ken Venturi as CBS' lead golf analyst) and Gil Morgan and Larry Nelson (\"scheduling\").
