The charges stemmed from an incident in June 2003 when [Christopher Gerald Marks], following a request from his friend and accused drug dealer Shane Carl Waters, ran a check on a man caught with 300 ecstasy tablets. During the subsequent police investigation Marks, formerly a senior constable attached to the Frankston Regional Response Unit, also confessed to using and possessing the drug ecstasy on one occasion.

MELBOURNE, Sept 15 AAP - A former police officer who leaked confidential information to an accused drug dealer from the Victoria Police database has avoided conviction and jail. Christopher Gerald Marks, 30, of Frankston South, appeared for sentencing today in Victoria's County Court after he pleaded guilty to the rarely used charge of misfeasance of public office. He had also pleaded guilty to drugs charges, all stemming from an incident in June 2003 when Marks ran a check on a man caught with 300 ecstasy tablets following a request from a friend and accused drug dealer.

The penalty relates back to a fatal decision [Christopher Gerald Bezaire] made in June of 2011. He had travelled to Kelowna for longtime friend Jody Rud's birthday and along with some other friends, they went camping. At some point the decision was made for Rud to get on the roof of his Pontiac Sunfire, which was driven by Bezaire, for some car surfing, said Const. Steve Holmes in the days following the event.

Sask. man charged in B.C. 'car-surfing' fatality

On June 11, 2011, a car crash on a service road in the Bear Creek area of Kelowna claimed the life of Jody Rud, 24, [Christopher Gerald Bezaire]'s close friend. Bezaire had travelled from Estevan, Sask., to visit his friend. Rud was well know in the Okanagan region because of his years at UBC Okanagan where he organized such events as the Remembrance Day ceremonies and homelessness initiatives.
