Andrâe Green revisited : representation and the Work of the negative
Andrâe Green was a leading voice in French psychoanalysis, a brilliant thinker and an innovative contributor to our field. His writings sit at the crossroads of contemporary psychoanalysis, where the challenges posed and the opportunities presented by the work of Lacan, Klein, Winnicott and Bion meet the still generative insights of Freud, many of which Green reminded us have yet to be fully developed or appreciated. Green's expansion of Freud's theory of psychic representation and his own formulation of the work of the negative exemplify his idea of clinical thinking and herald what many believe is a new paradigm for psychoanalysis. This volume of essays, written by an international group of scholars in response to and appreciation of Green's contributions, continues to explore the tension between presence and absence, loss and remainder, fort and da and the creative, dialectical arc that exists between these pairs in psychic development and the analytic process. It aims to expand the reach of our theory and practice to patients whose difficulties lie at the limits of analyzability, beyond the spectrum of neurotic disturbances for which classical psychoanalysis was originally intended, and to place the reader at the frontiers of contemporary clinical thinking and analytic technique.
Amherst artist to exhibit work at Louvre
[Andrae Green] likes to paint human figures on a huge scale. \"Anything over your body size is almost as if you have willed something to life,\" he said with his radiant smile. \"It's an incredible feeling. In my spirit I'm 35 feet tall.\" Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Green began drawing at an early age, inspired by comic book heroes. \"When my dad saw me drawing,\" said Green, \"he usually would take away my sketchpad and say, 'Read a book!' \" (His mom would give it back.) [Percy Wyndham] fought for the French in the 1848 Revolution, then for the Austrians, then for Garibaldi in Sicily and even distinguished himself as an officer in the Union Army in the American Civil War. He was a person who didn't know where he belonged, said Green, and \"that's the kind of situation I find myself in. In a certain context I'm a Jamaican artist,\" he said, \"but I try to engage a wide cross-section of people.\"

The school that brought the IB to the East End
\"What makes the IB special is that we are a very multi-cultural school and a lot of the things we believe in match the IB principles,\" says Geraldine Naughten, [George Green]'s director of sixth-form studies and IB programme co-ordinator. \"The IB offers a very broad education. It means you don't specialise too early and you can keep your options open until you are 18. It is also an excellent preparation for university.\" \"I've been going to George Green's for seven years now and I think it's improved a massive amount and it's because we've been able to have funding for things like the IB. If a school like George Green's was just left isolated in an area like ours and always told, 'You're a deprived school', then it wouldn't have got as good as it is now,\" she says. \"The international aspect of the IB is very different and unusual for a school like this. I think that's the greatest benefit, to be able to mix with people from all over the world. It's brought a whole different group of people to the area specifically for this qualification. As someone born and raised on the Isle of Dogs that's something I really appreciate. It brings change to the area. It's nice to learn from my peers about their respective countries and customs,\" [Todd Bishop] says.
UA Football Rewind
With 9:20 remaining in the game, UA quarterback Jason Johnson was sacked by Fred Shavies and fumbled. WSU recovered on the UA 32 to preserve a 14-13 lead and capture the momentum. WSU scored in less than two minutes to take a 21-13 lead. Frustrated with poor depth on its kickoffs and punts, Arizona went to never-used JC transfer James Molina of Pueblo High School. His first kick went deep into WSU's end zone for a touchback. His first punt soared 52 yards, but Arizona got a first down when Molina was roughed after his punt. Later, his first official punt went an identical 52 yards. Moments before Arizona ran onto the field, key UA players Clarence Farmer, Michael Jolivette, Gainus Scott, Andre Torrey and Jarvie Worcester formed a huddle near the UA bench and chanted something inspiring. Unfortunately, none of the injured players were in uniform.
RAIDERS' OFFENSE POTENT VICK, EXPERIENCED MATES HAVE WARWICK HOPES HIGH
\"[Michael Vick] has matured so much and added leadership to his wealth of natural talents,\" [Tommy Reamon] said. \"He has the entire package to attract Division I attention.\" Vick's primary target again should be Andrae Harrison (6-foot-3, 175 pounds). The rising junior was the district's surprise player in 1996 with a league-leading 806 receiving yards on 26 catches. Harrison, the starting quarterback on the junior varsity in 1995, nearly gave up football when Vick came over from Ferguson. * TOP RETURNEES : QB Michael Vick, FB [Tim Green], RB [Aaron Burke], WR Andrae Harrison, OL-DL Keith Joyner.
