Family's artistic effort
2008
Also on display are paintings by his daughters - Siti Norashikin, 23, Nurul Aini, 18, Fatimah, 15 and Siti Aishan, 12. \"Dad never forced us. We did what came naturally to us. After all, we have been dabbling in paints since we were little,\" says Fatimah who is seriously considering painting as a career. He specialises in recapturing the country's past. \"It is sad that not much of the past has been properly documented. Western museums, for example, are very proud of their warriors. But where are ours? This is why I'm trying to recapture the past in my work,\" says [ISMAIL Embong] who has had seven solo exhibitions in London, Amsterdam and Malaysia. Using only oil paints, he calls himself a \"realist painter\". He laments the lack of interest in this art form. \"Realist paintings depict events of the day. If not for these, we would never know what happened in the past. When you look backwards, you can be propelled forward.\"
